In my opinion, the "Rival Trainer"s Pokémon don't make any sense. Actually, the current 2nd Pokémon trainer doesn't make any sense at all IMO.
First off, is he supposed to be the rival from Red/Blue? If so, those Pokémon should be off the character, cause he only used 1st gen Pokémon in the games, cause he is from 1st gen.
Secondly, the first Pokémon Trainer already represents 1st gen, not to mention Pikachu and Jiggly do as well. A reason why rival trainer shouldn't be from Red/Blue.
Thirdly, the Pokémon on his team don't make any sense, besides being somewhat popular. They have nothing in common with each other. They seem a bit biased.
I would much prefer if the Rival Trainer represented an entire gen, besides one that is already represented. 1st gen is already covered. 4th gen is as well (Lucario). Zoroark may be in, so he'll cover 5th gen.
This leaves 2nd gen and 3rd gen.
A 2nd gen trainer would/could get something like Cyndaquil, Bayleef, and Feraligatr. I chose these cause Cyndaquil is the most chosen starter, Ash's bayleef never evolved (so keep Bayleef, also cause he is the best evo in the Chikorita evo line IMO), and Feraligatr is default fully evolved to complete the character, being the fully evolved of the group, though he is also fairly popular. The trainer IMO should be Kris, cause the female trainer was introduced in 2nd gen. If not there is Ethan/Gold.
A 3rd gen trainer would/could get Mudkip (cause everyone loves Mudkip for some reason), Blaziken because of his popularity, and Grovyle because of his major role in a few Pokemon games, and also he completes the character as the Ivysaur of the group. The trainer here could be May, cause everyone recognizes May from the anime, and she is a rival character in R/S/E... well, she can be one.
Course, we could also take yet another route and combine 2nd and 3rd gen, which would be fairly simple: Wes. Why Wes? Well, Wes appeared in Pokémon Colosseum, which was a 3rd gen game (I consider it one), and he has 2nd gen Pokémon (Espeon and Umbreon). There, 3rd gen Pokemon trainer with 2nd gen pokemon. Those pokemon are pretty awesome, to boot. Plus, Wes is pretty cool anyway. And also GY supports Wes, so yeah. hurr
So there are my opinions... sorry if I sounded like I was ranting or something. Just stating my opinion...
