Since the previous forum was deleted, Im reposting my topic
In Smash Bros, we have classic characters that represent Nintendo's past. Ice Climbers & Pit both represent 2 classic NES games and Mr. GAW & ROB represent Nintendo's classic handheld & gadgets. Many have already started making their own rosters with 2 new classic characters for SSB4. Characters like Balloon Fighter, Sukapon, Takamaru, etc. But to me, I see one character that is being over-looked big time. Im talking about the Duck Hunt Dog.
Now many feel that he is not a good choice but I disagree. While some of the retro characters listed above are known gaming characters, Duck Hunt Dog is an iconic gaming character and is well known outside of the gaming world by both gamers and non-gamers alike. That to me is a good note of notoriety. Duck Hunt was a big deal in the 80's and a great game after the Mario series, and one of the very few games that were good enough to share a cartridge with the great Mario series. He gets many mentions and honors out of that one game alone. His game has appeared in movies and television (Boyz N Da Hood, I Love The 80's, etc.), there is a band or a song named after him, hundreds of parodies have been made about him on youtube, has been voted the most annoying character, voted as top villain due to his laughter. Now some may see these awards as a negative, but if you think about it, its a positive. While most of NES characters became unsuccessful or forgotten, Duck Hunt Dog is still remembered and still gets mentioned, plus these awards show that he can still gain the gaming world's attention. Plus there were many games afterward that have paid homage to the Duck Hunt series by having mini-games similar to it. Duck Hunt games is what made the NES Zapper so popular, plus Duck Hunt was one of NES's launch games. Think about it, one of the first successful Nintendo games on its very first console. Plus the notoriety the dog has gained inside and outside the gaming world.
Mr. GAW, Pit, Ice Climbers, & ROB never gained as much iconic fame as Duck Hunt Dog, so adding him will be epic. Getting the chance to hit the Dog with many attacks would be epic and 25 years in the making. Or if you want to be on the other end of things, Duck Hunt Dog can be a very good playable character and can possibly be a top tier if his moves are made just right.
Balloon Fighter is a great choice of a character since his mini-games are often mentioned or honored to this day in certain games, and may look like he could get in before DHD. But the Dog has more fame overall many classic characters. Balloon Fighter and Duck Hunt Dog are my next 2 choices of retro characters for SSB4 while Little Mac will stand out as a series on his own since Punch Out is now starting to become more recurring since its resurrection on the Wii. Sukapon and Takamaru sounds like interesting characters, but both never saw much fame outside Japan and really dont bring nothing new to the table while Duck Hunt Dog is known worldwide as I mentioned before. Smash Bros is known as Nintendo's All-Star, yet Duck Hunt Dog is the most famous classic and retro character and it not playable.
If anyone thinks he doesnt have a fighting chance or a moveset is not possible, then here is my moveset for him also.
This is a video I made of his Special Attacks, Final Smash, Stage, Stage Music, Victory Theme, and Taunt
www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIhxjCCHXj0
If you dont want to see the video here are the ideas.
Up B- Ducks - he uses 2 Ducks to fly back on stage (works like Snake's Up B)
Standard B- NES Zapper, he uses the NES Zapper, has good knockback
Side B- Clay Disc - he throws a Clay Disc, fast move, good range attack, breaks and stuns foe when making contact.
Down B- Pounce - You know how he jumps in the grass before each round? we can make it his Pounce attack, works like Diddy's and Ganondorf's Side B.
Final Smash- Duck Hunt- play as the hunter and can shoot enemies from offscreen, works like Snake's final smash.
Stage- Duck Field - the field from Duck Hunt can be a flat playable stage, with the only hazards there are ducks flying out of the tall grass, sometimes getting in the characters way during a fight or bring out an item. The stage will be the size of Final Destination and can only KO enemies by off the side of the stage or Star KO.
