Actually, DK's substitute is an unlockable newcomer. You would know this if you read my blog.  Other than this secret character, Gooey and Mr. Game and Watch are the other two characters and both are complete. Any other mentioned characters (Rosalina, Falco, Olimar, Ice Climbers, ROB, Ganondorf, Ike) are our top priority for 0.8, including Donkey Kong. |

(to avoid confusion above this post, I had made, but later deleted a post I made. I had asked if the character was unlockable, but later realized I meant to ask whether the character was veteran or newcomer. Then I realized DMX said that he was an unlockable newcomer, so I then rendered the post as useless.)
So a newcomer, eh? Hmm, lemme check smashboards...
So unless there's a newcomer that was originally going to be unlockable but ended up being starter(but just unlockable in this version of the game), or an absolutely new character joining the game, it's Lil' Mac.

My guess would have to be Deoxys if he is not taken out of the roster already.

He was taken out of the roster, and at that he was going to be unlockable...and I doubt they'd bring him back in, seeing as they only have 6 pokemon reps atm.

I hope you don't think those are the only newcomers. 80 characters - 30-something veterans = 40-50 newcomers.
Someone needs to teach DMX how to not ruin surprises. >_>

Course I realize that. Those were the only one listed at starters though.
And in the chat room, Phantom made some hints...the new character is one we probably don't know is in the roster, and begns with a C.
We guessed Chun-Li and Chrono. I'm leaning on Chrono, because Chun-Li seems more like an unlockable.

I pray to God that Chao is, but I don't really care about Crono. All I know about Crono is the color of his hair the name of the game he comes from.

It's gotta be Chun-Li, I mean this game needs another Street Fighter character. You mean an extra, unneeded capcom character that likely wouldn't bring anything new to the table? (kicking is done by fox, beams are done by Ryu) |

hm?
I know that she can do simple punches and kicks, a repetitive kick like fox's combo, an upside down spinning kick(really the only new thing) and fireballs like Ryu. IIRC, there's only 3 or 4 specials to a Street Fighter game(at least in SF2) so there can't really be much unique.
