It seems as though only Bowser, Dedede, and Mewtwo were planned for the SSB64. Peach, Pit, and Meowth WERE NOT. "* Top, as for “[kutsupa]” “[dedede]” “[miyuutsu]” and so on, To tell the truth during of [sumabura] developing is to be appearance schedule, but With circumstance of the places it became cutting,…." Roughly meaning: As for Koopa (Bowser), Dedede, Mewtwo, etc., they were, to tell the truth, planned to make an appearance while development of Smash Bros. was taking place. However, with unforseen circumstances, they had to be cut... Nowhere does it say anything about Peach, Pit, or Meowth. Wow. I suppose this means Meowth won't be in SSB4, then.

They didn't say that they weren't. Why are you guys all jumping to conclusions just because someone DID NOT say something.
It's like assuming I don't wear pants because I said I wore a shirt and glasses and shoes.

Here's the thing, Maiz. It was widely believed that in addition to Bowser, Dedede, and Mewtwo, Peach, Pit, and Meowth were also planned.
However, there was no source for those three, only Bowser, Dedede, and Mewtwo. With situations like this, statements like the other three being planned are false until proven true. Bowser, Dedede, and Mewtwo were proven true. Peach, Pit, and Meowth were not.
In fact, do you know where it was first said that they were? On a Wiki. WITH NO SOURCE.
It was ended up being widely believed, and thus HAD to be true. However, Widely believed to be true =/= True, as proven with the recent "End of the World" as well as will be proven with 2012.

They may have been, or maybe not. But just not mentioning them doesn't completely disqualify them.

I'm just going to count it as "Don't care until proven true".

No, they had more of a chance of being in smash bros. BEFORE, when Nintendo was partnered with Rare. If Rare had stayed, I bet Banjo would've been in Melee.

How could anyone take this source as a fact?
Correct me if I'm wrong. So this source is saying that Peach, Pit, & Meowth were not planned for SSB64? If that is true or not really doesn't make a difference since it has been 12 years.
BUT here is another thing to point out. Though Peach & Pit were never planned for SSB64 (if this source is correct), eventually both of them became playable later in future Smash games. Peach in Melee & Pit in Brawl.
We can't jump into conclusion and assume that Meowth will not be playable in SSB4 or any later games if the characters that were on the same list of not planned (according to this source) are playable today.

This source does not say that they weren't planned for 64.

Which IS after the game was released.
It still doesn't prove anything, other than Bowser, Dedede, and Mewtwo being planned to be in.

I agree it doesn't prove anything as far as the issue with Meowth

But it doesn't prove that the other 3 WERE.
And Smashking, this is the official site for the original Smash. I'd take it's word over ANYONE elses. And you missed the point. The list on the top is the results of a poll. It does not mean who is to be in the next Smash. On the BOTTOM, it conveys some info ABOUT the poll, where Sakurai admits that Bowser, Dedede, and Mewtwo (who are in the Top 10 in the poll) were in fact planned. Peach was also in the Top 10, but he didn't mention her. I wonder why....maybe it's because SHE WASN'T PLANNED.

I'm wearing a shirt and shoes. Does this mean I'm not wearing pants?
That logic is still bad.

Completely different issue.
By YOUR logic, Chuck Norris was planned for the original Smash. It may not say that he was, but it doesn't say he WASN'T.
