The background could just be clouds of dust during the transitions.

Yeah, maybe.. I was hoping for some sort of transition though. It might not be hard to make the transition animation. What would be hard is moving all the solid surfaces without breaking something... Ugh!

You could just have them disappear and reappear as something different.

Just set up a bunch of special moving platforms. Wouldn't that work?

Actually, yeah, it would. It could be kinda like Fox's Landmaster.

Yes, during the time of the transition the original platforms would move downwards, to the main one(just make sure the have less/mpre depth so they appear behind the main platform). The the new platforms would be created rise up.
In case the platforms are too big(the windmill is a prime example) it should appear onto the main platform, painted black, gain it's supposed shape, and then gain colour. Basicly, you would have to edit the completed windmill sprite. Paint black and have it shrink.
I think that would be a good transition. The addition of dust clouds would make this specific style of transition look less bad.
Righ guys?

I like this plan.
It should go on more.

Whee! Programming the windmill's collisions will NOT be fun. I don't have any rotating surfaces in the game yet.

You don't need to put the windmill,if it is hard to code.

Can you make blocks move in circles? You could try to have the windmill's blades in sections and have them all move separately. Although now that I think about it, the windmill does seem like it would be difficult.

Right. Having flat blocks that moved in circles would not work the way it should. I would have to come up with some kind of flat surface that can rotate.

You could do Pokemon Stadium 2. Then you wouldn't have the windmill problem. AND I COULD MAKE SOME DRIFLOON SPRITES FOR YOU :'D

Oh yeah, that too. I feel like that stage would be awesome. It would be Spear Pillar but less annoying because they don't have control over time and space. Oh, they could invert the colors, since Reshirom and Zekrom are Yin and Yang. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME.

Black and White-themed Stadium is a wonderful idea. Yes, wonderful. It's always better to have new stages.
