Probably one of the best Mario based games, Mario Combat places you in Mario's position, except the style is more like Zelda as a platform. You can jump, but it doesn't hurt the enemy. You can land many different combos with your moves, in place, when running, holding down gets you an uppercut move.
A hint with Wall Jumping: hold the jump button, all you have to do is move the control keys.
The sequel, Mario Combat Deluxe, takes on a more smash bros style moveset, and you can do special moves. There's not much more to say about this game, except part of the artwork was made by Callum Stamp, a dev of SNBM.
