Expansion/DLC/wotever would be a while after the game is released, if at all. You wouldn't start on it while the game wasn't finished. My point exactly. By then, the game will be more well-known, so our potential pool of support will be larger!

Maybe during a certain period of time after the release, DLCs will become a more viable feature to make, but other than art and programming complications, one potential problem stands in the way: I think that adding DLCs could subtract from the fun of unlocking characters. It's possible that players will be more interested in downloading characters than actually playing the game to unlock the characters that are in the game - especially if we upload them early enough. I don't think it will become a major problem, but it could disrupt the flow of playing the game the way it's meant to be played.

Well, this might make the concept of DLCs a little more difficult to imagine, but one option is DLULC, Downloadable Unlockable Content. It would download the data for an unlockable character, so that you still have to go through the trouble of unlocking the character before playing as them. My only quandary with this is that I've never really heard of any game having something like that, and my idea of DLC is something that's ready to go right when you download it.

You still have to unlock the unlockable characters that are already in the game... So, adding in future characters is just a bonus! How does it negatively affect anything? Besides, there may be future revisions/re-releases of the game with new unlockables.

Just recalled something for the inclusion of DLC: Remember the thread "Nights' Ideas after Crusade has its final release"? Well after Crusade is done, Falcon said he may release a little open source part of it. If this is idea is still consistent, then that may be the opening to adding DLC. We might have to code ourselves, but heck, its still worth a shot.

And you'd still need to figure out how to code the character and get sprites for them. If you know how to do that, why are you waiting for Falcon to make the game when you could just make it yourself? Actually, I think it would be better to just have continuous updates than the concept of DLC. We'd need a new EXE and character or stage sprites to accommodate the new content anyway.
