True.
As for Giovanni, he uses non-1st Gen. Pokemon as well.

Wes and Rival Trainer dont seem important figures in the Pokemon series if you ask me. They just happened to be part of a unrepped generation

Wes represents the Shadow Pokemon saga more than a Generation. Granted, he didn't appear in XD, but legends of what he did in Colosseum were referenced.

I still feel Wes is not the best representative really, he still not that popular or known like that. rather than another copy or similarity style of the Trainer, I think single Pokemons are a better choice. Meowth and Zoroark my top choices. Cmon more Meowth votes

Oh,Nou! I don't like the idea having Meowth. It's a better choice than another Trainer. Actually that's right, but i don't like Meowth. In Nuke, they made him cheap... If they change his moveset then i don't see a reason why not adding him.

This is for Crusade. It'd be different. But the chances for Meowth in Crusade are very, very unlikely, sadly, due to already having 1st gen reps and being a pokeball pokemon.

I think Nuke Bros did an excellent job on making Meowth playable and a good fighter. Though he may need to get nerf down a tiny bit, he is my main in that game. It doesnt make any sense on why Meowth has far less of a chance of being playable in Crusade than the other listed characters. Meowth is one of the most recurring in the entire Pokemon anime series, which is an important part of the whole Pokemon franchise. One of the few most popular to this day as well. All the other Pokemons only rep a gen, which is a small part of the entire Pokemon series itself. Each of them were only popular during their respective gens existance and their popularity went down by the time the next gen came by. I dont think gen should really matter as each gen was only a temporary trend till the next one. Meowth has been the rival Pokemon for Pikachu for over a decade in the anime. Going with a character that actually played a part into the popularity of the Pokemon series in general is far more important than just adding in a Pokemon just cause they rep a gen. You guys can say that adding in a current gen is reasonable just to keep up with what is out there today, but think about this, are they really important to the series as a whole? I dont think so. Meowth is from the 1st gen and is considered one of the few most popular Pokemons to date. If gens were really that important, dont you think we would have gotten a 2nd and 3rd gen Pokemon in Brawl? You can blame time constraint or space on the roster but it could have been done, simply by changing my Pokemon Trainer's Pokemons to that gen. But did they do that, No. Cause those other gens really didnt have that big of an impact or left behind anything memorable, or was as popular as the first to even seriously be considered to make playable. Sure Deoxys and other Pokemons were highly requested before Brawl, but Meowth has been requested since the very beginning of Smash. I think that the only reason why the following Pokemons have more votes than Meowth on this poll is cause many believe that having a gen rep is far more important than a popular character to the whole series itself. Which is false. If we get 2 new Pokemons for this game and one of them is not Meowth, with all due respect, I think the dev. would make a bad decision.

Agreed. I think it's important to at least rep the LATEST Gen., in which case would be Zoroark, but Meowth comes before any others.

True, Meowth should be one of the 2 while Zoroark can be the 2nd Pokemon newcomer. The rest of them had their time passed just like other characters like Ninten, Skull Kid, etc.
Besides, Meowth was the original antagonist Pokemon before Mewtwo came along later in the 1st generation.

Technically speaking, Giovanni was the original antagonist, since games come before anime.
But if Jigglypuff can stay, who isn't as popular anymore, and doesn't appear in the anime often, but Meowth, who is still one of the most popular, AND appears in the anime almost as much as Pikachu can't be added, then where's the logic?

We know that Goivanni was the original antagonist, but I was talking about antagonist as far as Pokemon species.
And your absolutely right on that second paragraph. Meowth has been appearing in the series as much as Pikachu, while we dont even see Jigglypuff anymore. So your right, where is the logic?

Jiggs has been in every Smash already. That's the logic.

That yes, and Jigglypuff should not be taken out of Smash Bros due to that.
But if Pikachu has appeared in the Pokemon series as much as Meowth, then Meowth has every right to be playable as much as Pikachu. This is not saying Jigglypuff should be removed, but saying we can have all 3 of these Pokemon.

Its a good thing you pointed that out to so that others dont get the idea of replacing one another.
Hopefully, the dev. go with this logic.

Probably a bit late to the argument, but: But if Pikachu has appeared in the Pokemon series as much as Meowth, then Meowth has every right to be playable as much as Pikachu. You can't really compare Pikachu to Meowth though. Pikachu is the mascot of the Pokemon series, and he was not put into the original smash bros to represent the Pokemon anime. You guys are stating that Meowth should be put in because of his anime status, but that should not be the case because he's a video game character. And you can argue that Jigglypuff was put in the original game because of her anime status, but that doesn't change the fact that she's been in all three smash bros games while Meowth continually shows up as a PokeBall, even though she hasn't shown up (and has been replaced by multiple characters such as Sandile) in the anime in a long time. Honestly, I think she gets in every time on veteran status and as the "glass cannon" of the Smash Brothers series. Not only this, Pikachu has appeared more than Meowth in the Pokemon series, almost by an exponential factor. Do you not remember that up until 5th gen, Pikachu was in every single regional pokedex, whereas Meowth was only in the regional dex for Kanto and Johto dexes? This is like comparing apples to oranges. Also, this has been bugging me for a while: Pokemon is the single and plural form of the general term, as is the case with every individual Pokemon. "Pokemons" is grammatically incorrect. I also want to clarify one last thing: I'm not against Meowth at all, I'm just pointing out that the logic you're using for reasons that he should be in is rather flawed. I mean, This is entirely incorrect, as I stated above. If anything, it would be the other way around, and then it would still be incorrect when talking about the video game series as a whole as opposed to the anime series.
