Who is he?Nightmare is one of the most popular characters of Soul Calibur, present in all 4 games. Innitially he was the form of possesed Siegfied, another character. In SC3, however, Siegfried escapes Soul Edge's control. Even then, Nightmare manages to return as an animated armor, the evil that was within siegfried. He is very bulky and his right arm is is an enlarged demonic arm. He wields the evil sword, Soul Edge, which seeks souls to claim. Representation: (5) He repesents the soul calibur series as well as namco itself. Popularity: (5) Nightmare is very popular. Moveset Potential: (4) Nighmare performs various and most attacks with Soul Edge, which he uses either with his left or right hand. He also strikes with his demonic arm and executes various kicks in combat. Lastly, he posseses powers of demonic nature, such as powering causing a mini explosion and uses various grabs in combat. Uniqueness: (4) Although Crusade is going to have various sword wielders, Nightmare is the only one to wield such a huge sword. Additionally, he also attacks with his body and demonic powers. Regarding Spriting and Programming Potential: (3) (2*5+2*4+3)=(10+8+3)=21 (MAX is 25)

I'd definitely like him in. He should have the SCII appearance because that's the one Link was in. Only problem is the devs were also thinking about having Pacman, so that would slightly decrease his representation.

You said that none of the swordsmen use big swords. What about Ike and Ganon?

Ike can be compared to him, I guess. But definetely not Ganondorf.
Search videos of him in youtube, he's pretty original. He uses his sword quite differently from Ike.
There.

Firstly, Ike's sword isn't supposed to be a two handed sword from his game. He's actually a kind of weak speedy guy with an OP ranged wave shooting sword. Even with the power set up they have going for him in brawl though his sword cannot be called big compared to soul edge.
Second off, I love soul calibur 4 and I use nightmare in it, but I mainly like it because of the character customization. I don't really see Nightmare fitting into Smash in general though. Still if he was in I would definitely use him being a big fan and all.

Something that might support him getting in: In the old roster, he was in, and in the old, old roster, he and Raphael were in. Plus, having him would give us a non-capcom fighting game rep.

I am for Nightmare. He was in the old roster, and we cut him because we thought he wouldn't fit in. But hey, Smash is not about fitting in, IMO.

The reason I said Ganondorf is because he'll most likely get a new moveset.
And I'd like to point out that his demon hand thing will switch sides.

First off, Ganondorf's sword cannot be compared to Nightmare's.
And yes, the demon hand will switch sies, but does it matter?
Also, Nightmare fits perfectly the Heavyweight villain category.

He does sound like a good character. I just want to point out a few things to consider.

He'd need to be edited, but I don't think it'd be too hard to do that. I think he might look good in JUS.

you be willing to collab on this one? I wouldn't mind kicking out an animation or 5 in my spare time when you do the base.

Before I put in my vote, I would like to know the purpose of having Nightmare in for Crusade, cause if it is to represent Namco, I dont think he is the best choice since Pac Man is the mascot of that company.
Plus I think his grade is way too high compare to what it really should be.
Think his representation grade should be dropped to a 4 since Pac Man is the mascot of the company.
I cant deny that he is popular, but I think a 5 is too much, would say a 3.5 or 4. By the way, is he popular for the right reasons? Is it cause of his artwork or form?
And his uniqueness is over-rated. I give it a 3. Sure he has a big sword, but why should the size of the sword matter? And he has powers. But guess what, Ganondorf has both a sword and powers as well.
Moveset potential is fine

Im fine with representation being dropped to 4.
Regarding uniquess, he uses his sword completely differently to all the other sword using characters.
He is popular because he is, besides Yoshimitsu I guess, the mascot of Soul Calibur, which is an extremely popular game series.
Now, regarding the popularity of the character itself...
"Nightmare has received praise both as an aspect of Siegfried and as a series villain, and has been described as "one of the most memorable fighting-game villains in history." The New York Times noted his size and appearance alongside Astaroth's as standouts in the series, adding "they offer characters made for the sort of player who would have preferred Sonny Liston to Muhammad Ali, or Shaquille O'Neal to Michael Jordan." Others have been critical of the character's strength, such as JIVE Magazine which described him as one of several "total crutches for mediocre players" in Soulcalibur II.
In a 2002 poll by Namco prior to the release of Soulcalibur II regarding their favorite character, Siegfried placed ninth with 2.5% of the tally, tied with Mitsurugi. Nightmare placed first in UGO.com's "Top 11 SoulCalibur Fighters" article, with the writers statement "Was there ever really any question? Not for us..." and praise for his strength and role as a "badass, playable villain." IGN listed him as a character they wished to see in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a playable guest villain, though noted he was also "too extreme" for the series.[8] In a later article on the Soul series itself, they noted "a Soul game simply feels incomplete without an appearance by the warring personalities of Siegfried and Nightmare", and praised the contrast between Siegfried's angelic figure and Nightmare's demonic form."
From wikipedia.
Meh...It really comes down to whether he would be a unique, worthy addition or not. But he is very popular. Perhaps a 4 is better, I don't know.

Though I have no problem with him being the Soul Calibur rep, but I do perfer Yoshimitsu over him personally. No problem with that, but if it comes down to picking between Nightmare and Pac Man, then I say Pac Man is the best representative cause there would be no Namco and the popularity of arcade games if it wasnt for him. No Pac Man means no Namco, and no Namco means no Soul Calibur. Pac Man deserves his spot.
But Nightmare would be interesting, it just depends who he is replacing.
For now, my vote is undecided until he is confirmed playable and depends who he will be replacing
