@sumika: YOU have missed the point. The link I posted was for TvC, not MvC3. And come on, it's common sense that the reason why he wasn't in MvC3 was because he wasn't a fighter. They were going for a more "serious" approach with characters. Sure, characters like Viewtiful Joe and Deadpool are jokesters, but guess what? They fight. Name ONE character from MvC3 that never fought before. Do that, and I might consider Phoenix Wright as a decent choice.
Besides, we already have a crapload of Capcom characters, we don't need another. Give Konami a chance to have more characters.
And SMB2 doesn't count because it's a "dream"? Bull. A few of Peach's abilities COME from that. Or did you always assume that Peach floats and pulls vegetables from the ground? She also fought in Super Mario RPG. R.O.B. fought in Mario Kart DS, and R.O.B. being an accessory and under NINTENDO'S ownership, they can do whatever the Hell they want. R.O.B. isn't a real character; they made him one in games he is playable in. As for Mr. Game & Watch, he's ALSO original, so they can do whatever they want. There technically isn't a "Mr. Game & Watch" in the Game & Watch series. He is based off the mini characters from the games, but there is no single Mr. Game & Watch.
Phoenix is an established character, unlike those two. A better argument would've been Dr. Mario, as his games were Puzzle games, but at the same time, he's Mario. Things that Mario can do, he can still do as a doctor. Which is why he was a clone.
@maiz: Before you make a statement like that, you must be able to back it up. Show me where I "disproved my own argument".

You pointed out that he was planned for TVC. /logique

Planned, but didn't make it. He was cut early on. This was for the international release mind you, where they were trying to decide which new characters to add. They essentially needed a joke character, because one was removed from the original version. Phoenix Wright came to mind, as he'd be someone no one would expect. However, he didn't even make it past the drawing board. (Unlike Ingrid from Street Fighter Alpha). So instead, we got Frank West, who is a better choice for a fighter. However, neither are good choices for SSB format. -Removed due to graphic content-

But what standards? Humor me.
What chance does Phoenix have when characters like Mike Haggar, Amaterasu, Dante, Chris Redfield, Kajin no Soki, etc. are available?
Come to think of it, Amaterasu would be pretty sweet. And would be unique being a quadroped, which Smash has only one of (Ivysaur).

Er, maybe he wasnt in Marvel VS Capcom 3 because he's only appeared on Nintendo Consoles? *Inb4viewtiful joe* Blah blah blah, can do whatever they want blah blah blah they're made by nintendo. Facinating. They still werent fighters. And... riding in a kart and throwing bananas does NOT count as fighting. I knew theres no Mr. G&W thats why I said the games he's BASED off of. Peach was more of a healer than a fighter Mr.Sirman, and just because she has SMB2 moves in Melee doesnt mean that she was a real fighter. And I said, "IF YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT THE LINK YOU POSTED [...]" So you obviously could have said "I was talking about MvC3, not TvC" Instead of saying I was missing the point. Obviously I knew I might've been wrong. An argument of "They're nintendo characters they can do whatever they want with them" is really not an argument at all. It's more of an excuse. Like I said before. We're not going to come on terms with this.

Well, for one, a non-gamer could probably recognize Phoenix the most out of all the characters you posted. Heck, I barely know any of those guys you posted. Only reason I can is because they're in MvC3, though I'm not positive who Kajin no Soki is.

@sumika: That means nothing. Lost Planet was never on a Nintendo system, and PTX-40a was in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, a Wii exclusive. Same with Kajin no Soki, the Onimusha series was PS exclusive (I think. It MAY have been on the Xbox, I'm not sure), and Soki was in TvC. And Arthur, from GnG, which never had games on a Xbox or PS, was in MvC. Systems don't matter.
An "excuse" that's been done on a multitude of times. Companies can do whatever they want with their characters. It's THEIR character. Making a pacifist into a fighter in a fangame is an atrocity. Had Phoenix actually been in TvC or MvC3, I would have no problem with it, but the only thing we can go by is the Ace Attourney games, and in those games, he detests fighting.
Now, you can give the argument that Sonic said "I wouldn't be caught dead with one of those [guns]" and uses the Ray Gun and Super Scope in Brawl. There really is no counter to that.
@sp: But the target audience are not Non-Gamers. They're gamers. I'm pretty sure the Capcom fanboys would like to see Haggar, Ammy, or Dante before Wright. Especially Dante.

So you're saying a company can make its own character do whatever it wants, but if a fan game does it, its terrible? That's absurd. Well Sonic WAS in a game with guns. ;3 Either way, I'm done arguing, my main point is, I support phoenix. Blarghy. Good night.

He WAS in a game with guns, but that doesn't mean anything. It was Shadow's game, not Sonic's, and he flatout said he would never use one.
And yes, if a fangame changes a prexisting character to do something he WOULD NEVER DO or SUPPORT, it's bad. Making Phoenix fight is the same as making Snake a peace man/hippie. It's against the character.

Actually, I think I heard somewhere that Layton was one of the characters considered for Brawl that never got in, though I can't remember for the life of me where I heard that or even if it is true. Actually, to correct this rumor. A few sources (one of them being IGN) have said that Layton said on his twitter account (obviously a Layton series/Level 5 representative or director) that he was watching a Brawl tournament in LA or something and then hinted as if he had interest to be involved in Smash Bros. This was probably a year or two after Brawl's release. It was later speculated that he could possibly be in SSB4. Appartly those rumors died out quickly. As for phoenix, I like the character, but with all these planned capcom reps, I dont want to see more and much rather see another character deserving outside of capcom. I swear since MvsC3 &TvsC been out, its been nonstop capcom rep suggestion to the point where we end up having more reps than needed.
