Why not go the MvC3 route? Galactus is hungry, so he goes to the world of Crusade to eat their planet.
Ryu, being the only one (so far) to recognise this threat, composes a team to try to take him out.

But they're different. Sorta.
If I had the roster, I'd help out and make some rival pairings (although I'd assume the four of you combined could easily come up with them).
Then again, the chances of me having or getting the roster is slim.
My point is, we probably only have to make rivals for the starter characters. The Unlockables could come later; I would assume a person wouldn't want to play through as an unlockable (say, Jiggs for example) and have to fight a completely unrelated rival or something like that (such as Mach Rider, who is presumably C. Falcon's rival ATM).
EDIT: Golden: Probably need something either more recognizable or more original than that. People who haven't played Marvel vs Capcom would have no idea about that stuff. Like me.

Yes, I believe it was.
From the first page:
"Tabuu comes back, but he created his own minions and is ripping holes in the trophy world through his own power, and to beat him, the minister gathers up all the original fighters from Brawl. They confront Tabuu, but they're beaten horribly, so they all go on quests to find more characters to help save the world."
Oh yeah, and you said that it didn't work because of the IC, but here's another option: They were busy climbing a mountain and couldn't be found.

That could certainly be interesting.
The entire game is being glitched up, and the roster is out to fix it! Battle through various stages with completely messed up graphics, various glitch pokemon would be the enemies and bosses, so on and so forth.
Only problem is that the story is then focused on a Pokemon character, as opposed to one who's not from any series, as would be the case with Tabuu.

What about the Greedy Bosses, and the Good characters?
Sort of like SSB.B way, or maybe you could just get everyone to join up a story, add some pics, and comments, and maybe even suggest ideas?
I have a idea, you could make it around the Pokemon world, or maybe even Mario's world, Link's world, Dragon Ball Z world (hey, why not add all those together to form worlds?!! Then you could travel to places, sort of like teleport, defeat greedy and crazy bosses, and massive boss battles, good character VS good character to fight back one other?)

As far as I know, Tabuu was killed, so why bring him back?
Here's my idea-
Crazy Hand goes Berzerk and want's to destroy all of Master Hands work (Smash World) because he's tired of Master Hand being the ruler of Smash World.
So, it could be something like a Smash Bros. Civil War. The characters Crazy Hand steals from Master Hands toybox are on his side, and the remaining ones (probably the starters) are with Master Hand.
Crazy Hands goal would be to recruit all the Smashers to his side and become ruler, promising his minions great rewards and such. His generic minions would be minions of his minions. (If that makes sense) like Goombas or Octorocks.

I've heard a lot of good ideas, so don't worry - it's not that we're running out of them. Just because we don't run with an idea right away doesn't mean it's lost. gigapichu: That's pretty much exactly the idea behind Adventure Mode besides the reason Crazy Hand goes crazy. And we all know that final bosses never die until you've killed them at LEAST twice. Sephiroth for example. Zack killed him once, Cloud killed him twice, and he's technically STILL NOT DEAD. So bringing Tabuu back for a sequel wouldn't be entirely farfetched. Or, one of the characters (Ganondorf, for example) could kidnap Game&Watch and force him to produce shadow bugs again, and he eventually gets enough to reform Tabuu. HOWEVER, Tabuu would then be under Ganondorf's complete control. How about that? EDIT: Ninja'd by Falcon. Really didn't expect that  That's good at least. Maybe when you all meet up for the interview you can discuss the possibility of a story mode. Did I ask about it on the thread already? Might've.

I like that Crazy Hand idea. He was shafted in the SSE, so why not have him be the main antagonist (presumably) in this game?
(I say presumably, as there should be a higher force controlling him like Tabuu controlled Master Hand.)
