I don't like the English names which is why I'm sticking with the Japanese names. Also, I don't think it means any more importance to me since I'm pretty done with the game.

Nah. The English names are definitely not in Japanese. I mean the English names are typically translations of the Japanese ones.

As I said before. Doesnt matter to me.
I mean its not like pokemon names were always awesome. I mean. Meowth? really? Original? I think not.
Just depends on the pokemon.

Actually, after looking at the origins of a lot of the japanese names, they're mostly portmanteaus or puns. The english names are the translation of said portmanteaus and puns.
Such as... Pikachu. Pika is the sound sparks make, chu is the sound mice make. Nyarusu (Nyarth as we would say it) (that's meowth btw). Nya = cat sound. The rest is probably a speech impediment based off of anime Meowth. Pachirisu. Pachi is another electricity sound, risu is squirrel. Rizadon (charizard). Lizard + mon. Just to name a few. Cause there's a ton. Something like 645 or so P:

I lost track of how many pokemon there are in the pokemon series after the second generation. Anyways, you do make a good point about that.

There's 649, as I just found out. So I was pretty close. I just found a thread on psypokes.com with the etymology of all the english pokemon names through fourth generation, in case anyone's interested. www.psypokes.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13886EDIT: Wow. Boldore. That's the most creative name since the invention of buttered toast. They're really bad at naming rock types. Geodude, graveler, they didn't even make an effort with golem. And now Boldore. That's it. When 6th gen comes out, I'm naming all the pokemon, flying to nintendo of america & europe, and forcing them to use my names instead of their crap. Most of it would be from the fanbase. Or just names that make actual sense.

That's how it's pronounced normally.
Sawk and Thawk are a couple others on my "hate list". I already hated the pokemon themselves, now I hate their names too.
Although considering how broken I made my Jaroda, it makes sense for it to be Serperior. Because he is. I'll name it Basiriske though.
I respect their romanizing Zekrom and Reshirom. I'm still going to name my Zekrom "Judenboldt", which is a slightly changed romanization of thunderbolt (Jyuudanboruto). Zebulon is a cool name too.
