Absolutely. I wasn't competitively knowledgeable before SFBR, I learned specifically to join. Which I definitely recommend any skilled player to do, it's made such a difference in my playing ability.
Competitive knowledge is what draws the line between a pro and what we call a "skilled amateur"

But... You just said that being good at the game was unrelated to understanding competitive terms.

I'm saying that knowledge is more important. That doesn't mean you can't have both. In my particular case I was good at application first, then learned to join the Back Room

Eh, I am not sure I fully agree, but you do seem to understand a lot of things about competitive Smash. I mean, it's whatever. We'll come up with some application that includes some questions about common Smash terms and some open-ended questions about the gameplay.

No one's posted in there for months. Yeah, it kinda died when we got out own forums... Although the discussions that went on there were generally NOT what the new back room will be like.

There will be a Back Room? Put me in!I culd help ypu whit the tier list. Daw, you're awesome. I think you should automatically be in! ;D ... Right after you pass the application, that is! Ha! As for the tier list, I still say it's this: Goku Tier: Goku High Tier: Fox Krystal Bomberman Middle Tier: Everyone else except Snake Low Tier: Snake But I still think Peach can be good if played well.

I think Bomberman's better than Goku actually. But wait, this is actually going to happen? I never really liked these things. I feel they ruin the game by people getting way too competitive, actually making it into science, which at that is unneeded. Its best just to have fun. You can guarantee I won't show up, and even by the scarce chance I'd pass the poll, I still wouldn't post.[/strike][/color]

Because being competitive ruins the game and you can't have any fun ever and then you can't play the game if you don't play competitively.
/sarcasm.

This better not be in order. I agree that Fox is good (I actually started maining him a while ago but don't play as him much) but he's certainly not better than Krystal. As soon as Goku's sprites are changed Krystal shall take #1! >:'D Or is this for 1.0..?

just had a crazy idea that's probably not going to work or be inforced; what if the poll you get is sent by PM? Then if you pass, a special-secret board opens up so that you can see it. That way, if people see it, they won't be able to even see the threads and stuff. Deny permission at all costs.

There's going to be more than four tiers, no doubt. And I think a lot of players will be taken by surprise once a tier list comes out. Players tend to bias characters they main or like, or just don't have the competitive background to truly see what makes a character high tier/ low tier.
I'm getting the impression that 1.0 isn't far off, so I assume tier lists and such wouldn't take place until 1.0?

I'm getting the impression that 1.0 isn't far off, so I assume tier lists and such wouldn't take place until 1.0? I think it's going to be a few more months. DMX said it would probably be June, and Falcon said it might be in May. However, the tier list for 0.6 would be completely different than for 1.0, as Falcon's already proved.

Yea, which is why a tier list for 0.6 probably wouldn't be made. By the time the CBR starts, we'd be better off using the time till 1.0 discussing rulesets, and beginning metagame discussion to help prepare for 1.0, then talk tiers and stage legality once 1.0 is released

Uhh...the tier list has actually already been made.. there really isn't any, or at least many objections to it. But its fan-made. And its found in "My own character rankings list."

That's not a tier list, as discussed, it's a ranking list. Tier lists are based on metagame, there's very little metagame progression on this forum. Tier lists are also based off an averaging of votes, not one persons opinion. And no there haven't been many objections yet.......because I haven't voiced any xD. I don't because again, it's a rankings list, and therefore I actually see nothing wrong with it. If it were however to be called a tier list, I would certainly have objections, both to the way it was made, namely the one member thing, plus other things already mentioned, and to the actual placements of some characters.

People don't vote on a tier list.
It is based on tournament results. There are no tournaments for Crusade, so Detta is just placing them as he sees fit, and when we give him a suggestion for change and good reason, he moves them.
