Phantom made two teasing posts: And another character got replaced today! ...with a more retro character... If I revealed who the new character is, you wouldn't have expected us to choose him, and you'd think he has absolutely no moveset potential at all. But Doc and I talked about doing something with this character that when you play this character... will revolutionize the way Smash Bros. is played. I have no clue about the first one, but I have the oddest feeling that the second is the Prince, from Katamari.

First one is clearly Contra. One of the hardest platformers, I believe introduced the style to Metroid, and introduced the ever so popular Contra Code.
Second, I have guesses on Balloon Fighter, but I think he can easily have moveset potential, but I also have a feeling for a virus from Dr. Mario.
Yes, I'm serious.

Looks like it isn't the Prince. As Generic pointed out, he's never been on a Nintendo console.

There are actually two characters in the first quote. The other one made a huge impact and is considered one of the hardest video games of all time. I've said enough.

Then one's most likely the main character of Contra. I've heard the first level is practically impossible.
I feel like he'd play like Laguna in Dissidia Duodecim.

Arthur is just another platformer character. Phantom is trying to look at characters with the most unique games. So right there, my guess is Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden. The game was not only hard, but it showed something new in platforming as you could run along walls, and pretty much do ninja stuff. and he had a game for NES, just so you know.

But having two Ryus.....won't that get confusing?

Not unless we go by Ryu H, and/or the announcer says "Hayabusa!"

Is he known as simply "Hayabusa", or has he been always called "Ryu Hayabusa" or "Ryu"?

Pretty much always Ryu. We could just make it so its always spelt "Ryu Hayabusa", like with rumble since they had both, or just plain Hayabusa. But I haven't played the Ninja Gaiden series in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time so I don't really remember.

Oh, so you wanna know who was removed? Yes, Aero was one of them. One of them is a popular Nintendo character who appeared in Japan awhile before it hit America. The other was a highly requested character for SSBC...

EDIT: Oh, you mean the characters who got removed... the one in Japan then America is Starfy. Its a bit of a shame, but if its being replaced by a better Japan originally character *coughRayMkcough*, I'm ok. I'll have to look through the roster thing again to find the other one.

The other was a highly requested character for SSBC... I can understand why Aero was removed, but now I am very curious to know who is this popular Nintendo character who originated in Japan and reached America that was removed. There must be a good explanation for it cause in order for a Japanese video game character to break out of Japan and into the states mustve had great reviews for its respective game and became very popular. Doesnt sound like a good idea to remove the character. But at the same time I dont know who it is or who is the replacement so its not easy to give some detailed thoughts of it. Any clues you can give us on who are replaced other than Aero.

1st one is clearly Starfy. Starfy had 4 games in Japan, then one in America. With Smashking's reasons, I think he belongs in.
I know I'm going to get flamed at for this, but my guess on the other highly requested character was Earthworm Jim. He was requested a lot on both the old and new forum, a lot of people supported him, but they didn't have him on the original roster and I believe his game was just a simple platformer. Only other thoughts are Black Shadow, who I doubt since there was pretty much equal thoughts on him or Samurai Goroh, and Zoroark, which I find kind of stupid when they could've replaced Rival.

Hopefully it is not Starfy, I feel that he belongs. He is one of the few new Nintendo characters that actually is gaining popularity and he looks like a very simple character to make so I dont see spriting issues for him.
