By what I'm hearing, you guys would say Mario and Luigi are too similar or Sonic and Shadow are too similar... Luigi is too important to the series, whereas Rosalina and Petey have equal importance to the series. As for Shadow, you can make an ENTIRELY different moveset for him. ...And ahem. Neutrals plz Rosalina has appeared in 3 games, being playable in 1 of them. Petey has appeared in 14 games, being a boss in 6 of them and a playable character in another 6. Heres where you're wrong. Petey isnt important to the series AT ALL. He's just a reoccurring boss. He had NOTHING to do with the Story and is NOT a Major character. Where as Rosalina was a Major character and had key plot points in the games. The amount of games a character has appeared in is NOT a good representation of how he should be in the game. His IMPORTANCE in the game is. That's like saying Kraid should be in as a Metroid rep because he's been in almost every Metroid. NO! He has no Link to the story other than "Kill him and move on" Just like Petey. Name ONE Unimportant boss that's a playable character in ANY SSB game. They're always placed as bosses, or trophies. That's it. Why? Because they dont have enough importance! |

Name ONE Unimportant boss that's a playable character in ANY SSB game. In SSBC, possibly Ridley or Black Shadow? I honestly have never played F-Zero, so I can't judge BS. |

Rosalina played a major role in just 2 games. I just don't see how this makes her smash worthy.
On the other hand, Petey has only been a reoccuring boss, but has also been playable in many spin off games.
Mario games are mario games, it is natural if some things remain unexplained...
Heck, has it ever been explained why Bowser kidnaps Peach?

DGN- Ridley Killed Samus' Parents, He has an important plot point. He's also the final boss once in a while. Black Shadow Is Captain Falcons Arch Enemy, and Guroh is his Rival. They're important to the story. Sliss- He's just a boss, He isnt important at all. Maybe we should add Wiggler! He's been playable a lot! He's in a lot of games! What about King Boo! He was in a lot of Spin Offs and Playable in a lot of games! Whoa!!!!!1 Bowser Kidnaps Peach to take over the Mushroom Kingdom.  |

Not as much as Petey though, he is by far the most common boss second only to Bowser.
And yes, Ridley killed Samus's parents blah blah blah. Mario games though do not have the sames focus on the story!

Then why isnt Petey playable in Brawl? Why is he an Unimportant boss like all the other games he's in? Because he's not important. Why do you think he's not in Mario Kart anymore? Or even Mario Sports Mix? His Days are done. Mario still adds characters that are only important to the story to ANY Smash bros. |

Why wasn't Petey in Brawl? How the heck should I know? Heck, Ridley was excluded and Ganon was a semi-clone of Captain Falcon!

Ridley is large, and Ganon was a stupid mistake. It doesnt matter if they have a big story. It matters who's important in them. I'm done with this back and forth I cant explain my side any better.  |

I have to agree with all of Night Owl's comments.
Petey has appeared in numerous games, but that was after 2000. Think of all the new Mario series characters that have been introduced to the Mario series since 2000. Petey, Bowser Jr, Rosalina, Waluigi, Prof. E Gadd, Fawful, & Baby Mario Bros.
Petey is the only character mentioned above that had no important role in any Mario game that relates to the plot.

Galaxy had a side pl0t that had the back story to the Luma's and Whatnot.
And Luigi's Mansion was Broski in distress. XD
What I'm trying to say is... Some mario games have that as the main focus but there's a bit more to it than that usually. Like Shadow Mario in Sunshine, The power stars in SM64, The Luma/Rosalina Side story and how The universe would be taken over by bowser... Etc.

Well, the RPG's mostly, but games like sunshine and galaxy did have something more to them. This is true. But even so, I don't see how Rosalina is more worthy thatn Petey.
Sure, many nintendo characters have been created since the 2000's, but Petey is by far the most popular of all those and with the most appearances.
Petey can, I think, be legitmately considered an iconic character of the series, moreso than Waluigi or Toad.
