When I think of Castlevania I think of Simon, the hero of the original game, and Dracula, the main character of the series.
Before anyone goes "BUT DRACULA'S A BAD GUY, HE CAN'T BE THE MAIN CHARACTER", think of it like this.
Super Mario is the story of Mario and how he rescues Princess Peach from the clutches of Bowser.
The Legend of Zelda is the story of Link and his quest to save Princess Zelda and defeat the evil Ganon.
Pokemon is the story of traveling Pokemon Trainers on their quest to become Pokemon Masters.
Castlevania is the story of Dracula and how heroes of different times try to destroy him.

Maybe, but Dracula wouldn't fit in Smash Bros. He'd be best as a boss...

Simon Belmont should come in before anyone on this list. He is the original protagonist of the first Castlevania, which became a classic and the series expanded for years since. Plus he is the most requested rep for the series whenever a SSB4 roster is discussed.

Maybe, but Dracula wouldn't fit in Smash Bros. He'd be best as a boss... I wouldn't say he wouldn't FIT, but he does seem more like boss material. Then again, you have Eggman, and HE'S more boss material... |

We have Bowser and Ganondorf. See, those 3 are less boss material than Dracula and they're have the right amount to be made characters.

In his mech? You said that Tron Bonne has little viability and she's in a similar mech to that.
On foot? He's never fought on foot.

Robotnik seriously wouldn't fit as a fighter. He has never fought expept for using some unsuitable-for-smash vehicle.

Simon defines Castlevania like Mega Man does his series. Simon launched the series and became the icon even though he was not the main character of each game. I absolutely agree with this. Yes, surprise. lol. Simon is the one who started it all. Everyone else are just successors and only follow the footsteps of Simon. I think you mean, Trevor Belmont started it all. >_> |

Neither has Captain Falcon before Smash Bros. Robotnik still has his gadgets he can use on ground. You can't use the Captain Falcon argument. He was given a moveset from the prototype game "Dragon King: The Fighting Game" because his model fit the characters'. Just replace "Dragon" with "Falcon" and you got Captain Falcon. As for Robotnik/Eggman, he has shown to be pretty damn useless on foot. Except with the strange ability to run faster than Sonic....but you'd never incorporate THAT. At best, I could've seen Eggman pilot the Egg Walker from SA2, but Tail's Cyclone is used as a Final Smash, so that wouldn't make any sense. Making Eggman fight out of a mech is suicide. Instead, why not the suit he fought with in Sonic the Fighters? That's where Sonic got a lot of his normal attacks from. |

Actually, faster than him, even super sonic, and even the debug ring in sonic 2. Lol. And in Sa2, Eggman could slap and kick in the chao garden...uh....ftilt and dtilt? And IMO, he could somewhat work on foot...but at that, it'd seem to weird. ....we're getting off topic. :U |

And that's why Ninten was in smash bros and Ness and Lucas weren't, because he was the original protagonist and made his game famous. Also, that is why Pauline is in and Peach isn't, because she was the original damsel-in-distress of the mario series, and was in the game that brought the series to success. And also, Slippy Toad should be in any smash bros game before Krystal, because he was in the original Star Fox (or the original, canon Star Fox 64 if you're anal about it), and that was the game that brought the series to success.
Wait a sec that's not right........................
Also, Smash Bros Rumble is this fangame, also made by Gamemaker. You can find it on yoyogames.com. It's got Richter as a character, with a full(ish) moveset. Sure it's less of a smash bros game than any other fangame out there, but it's still got the general concepts. If you chose Richter, I think you could just email the guy who made Rumble and nab his sprites.

Quiet you. Why don't you cough up a reason Simon shouldn't be in and Dracula should?
EDIT: Look at all of the Konami games Simon has been in that include many Konami characters. Lot more than Dracula.
