Way to make the forum active.Reviews for Mega CD version of Sonic CD were very positive, with a consensus that it was one of the best games for the Sega Mega-CD. The game was praised for its innovative time-travel based gameplay, presentation and music. It was rated 10 out of 10 in Game Rankings. Sonic CD was awarded Best Sega CD Game of 1993 by Electronic Gaming Monthly. In May 2009, Gamepro listed Sonic CD as one of the Top 20 Best Platformers: 1989 to 2009, ranking the game in 12th place. GamesRadar listed Sonic CD as the 67th best game of all time. ^This is what Metal Sonic represents. Shadow the Hedgehog was released in 2005 in North America on November 15, in Europe on November 18, and in Japan on December 15. Critical response ranged from average to negative upon its release; the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox versions are respectively rated 51%, 45%, and 49% on Metacritic and 53%, 49%, and 52% on Game Rankings. Reception of the Shadow the Hedgehog character is largely mixed by fans of the Sonic franchise and by game reviewers. In a 1UP.com feature about "How Sega Can Save Sonic the Hedgehog," Jeremy Parish wrote that of the "tagalongs" that the series must ditch, Shadow's character was the most in need of it. In 2009 Levi Buchanan, an editor at IGN, referred to Shadow as an unnecessary "would-be mascot" along with a few other characters new to the Sonic Universe; Hilary Goldstein, Editor-in-Chief of IGN's Xbox team mentioned the mechanics of Shadow's solo game, specifically the use of firearms, as part of the central problem nowadays with Sonic games, being there is less emphasis on both speed and the original hedgehog. ^This is what Shadow represents. Is this a joke? The Sonic series has one of the most broken fanbases ever. If you see an opinion one way, there's sure to be a counter opinion somewhere else. Btw, can you give an example of anyone who isn't involved in production who actually wants Metal Sonic in over Shadow?

I don't support either side because I'm not a fan of Sonic games but I just have to make this one point. Shadow was in Brawl. Metal Sonic is where nowadays?

Twas a sticker, but then again, EVERYONE that had a profile on Sonic Channel at the time did (except Shrara the Ring Genie and Erazor D'jiin, who had stickers despite not being on Sonic Channel then and even now), even Tikal. Metal Sonic wasn't even a trophy.

DMX, please explain how Metal is more important to the franchise than shadow.

ib4nostalgia ib4modernsonicsucks inb4peoplelovemetalsonic inb4shadowONLYrepresentshisgameandnotsonicadventure2 inb4metalsonicrepresentsthegenesistitlesdespitenotbeinginthem Metal doesn't deserve any of what he's received after Sonic CD, and should've stayed destroyed. All decent Sonic fans know that what Metal got is what rightfully belonged to MECHA Sonic. At least SMBZ got it right.

...who actually wants Metal Sonic in over Shadow? Me. Really. Not kidding. Not lying. A better question is, "Who THINKS Metal Sonic should be in over Shadow". Because I'll be honest. Bias-wise, I perfer Metal. But Shadow is more important. @golden: In the least, Metal Sonic looked a bit like Mecha Sonic in Sonic Heroes, but after that it just went to his old self.

On both logic and bias note, I dont want Metal Sonic at all. I would like to put in an idea. Rather than having Metal Sonic as a playable character, why not have him as a boss in the 1P Mode? Remember in Melee you can fight both Metal Mario & Metal Luigi? When playing 1P Classic Mode on Hard, Very Hard, or Intense difficulty, Metal Luigi can be replaced with Metal Sonic. So in the 1P Mode, you fight in a 2 on 1 Match against Metal Mario & Metal Sonic. What you guys think?
Or have him as a Sonic alt?
And on a more bias note, I feel that there is no need for a 4th & 5th Sonic rep. The current 3 represent it best. I wouldn't mind Dr. Eggman, but not if he will fight on his mechanic.
Honestly, I would most rather see another Nintendo or retro rep get the spot, or at least another Sega rep like Ai-Ai from Super Monkey Ball.
But if many feel that a 4th Sonic rep is needed, then I guess Shadow is a go. Or at least Dr. Eggman. But no one else before them.

That'd be like having Dark Samus as a Samus alt. Which people seem to think is tolerable, but really isn't. He's never fought off of it before. Depends. Characters like Pulseman would be a bit misfitting.

:38, pause when lightning strikes. The designs on him look a bit like Mecha. Also looks like him a bitaround :42.

Funny thing about Sonic CD is that I actually hated it. I must be one in a million though. This has nothing to do with my choice of character though.

If you notice at 3:40, Metal reverts back to old self. Just as I said. The appearance that you're referring to is NOT his natural appearance (not even for the game). That is a form called Neo Metal Sonic, which he took after absorbing data from Chaos. While it bears some similarites to Mecha, there aren't enough of them to make it more than mere coincedence.

...*facepalm* Misread and thought you said that "he didn't look like Mecha until after Heroes". Then the next phrase confused me...-_-;

It would be epic enough to be the penultimate battle of Adventure, and we already have Metal Mario. Hm.... I think Shadow is the more popular choice and would be just as unique and different from the other Sonic characters as Metal Sonic, but I'm still undecided. At the moment I'm leaning towards Shadow.

Well, if you want something, doesn't that technically mean you care? Also, what would be your reasoning then for liking Metal Hog more?

Metal Sonic's a robot. *checks roster
R.O.B is technically the only other robot on there and yet the two are beyond different. How many anthropomorphic animals do we have? *checks roster
About a 10th of the roster is talking animals.

Metal Sonic uses electricity. Pikachu, probably some other characters. He's also partially an android. Samus a bit. And it's pretty mecha. Megaman. Lazers? ROB, Fox, Falco, Wolf, Samus, Megaman, Krystal, Goku, etc. Rockets? Diddy Kong, ROB, Samus, etc.
Shadow. Chaos powers? NO ONE.
