With the roster still not finalized, and more than 50 new forum member since the last time this topic was active, I would like to hear opinions or ideas on the suggestion of duck hunt dog playable. From new members or just some who havent given their opinions. Lets vote for "yes" people;)

Too bad there isn't a retract vote option, cause I'd like to vote yes now. I think the reason I didn't want him in is because, being 8-bit, his sprites don't match at all. Being the second most popular Nintendo icon, I believe, he deserves it.

Second?
Would Pikachu be second? Or Luigi?

Is there anyway I can edit the poll so that people can switch votes?

Try editing the first post.

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to change the poll. I've asked Night's and Werekill, and neither of them know how to do it.

I tried to edit the first post but there is no option to change it. By the way, I plan on seeing if I can make a sprite sheet for him. There is already one in existing but im gone edit it.

i'm really sorry for double posting, but I just need to know that if nights owl or werekill know if it is even possible to add in the retract vote on this thread. If I could then im gone find out how. If not, do you think I should delete this thread and remake it with a retract vote? again sorry for the repost.

I just wanted to ask you this- have you ever imagined Duck Hunt's Dog actually being in game? Imagine going to the full 80-character select screen. Would you really pick someone's mugshot that says "DOG" under it when there are 79 other characters there? What would his mugshot even look like?
Now imagine your on the Stage select screen. The world explodes because THERE'S A DUCK HUNT STAGE WITH THE DOG.
Now you go to Battlefield and you start the match. Can you imagine "Dog" having a decent fight against Ganondorf? And with the moveset you gave him? No, it wouldn't work.
I hate to say it, but would you really play as "Dog" when you have all those other characters right in front of you?

It'd either be him laughing or holding a duck. Now imagine your on the Stage select screen. The world explodes because THERE'S A DUCK HUNT STAGE WITH THE DOG. Now you go to Battlefield and you start the match. Can you imagine "Dog" having a decent fight against Ganondorf? Can you imagine playing Ivysaur against Link? doesn't work either. And with the moveset you gave him? No, it wouldn't work. Elaborate.I hate to say it, but would you really play as "Dog" when you have all those other characters right in front of you? I'd play as him over Ganon, Bowser, Peach, Rosalina, a bunch of people are worse than Laughing Dog.

Honestly, with characters like Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B, I can say that pretty much any character can work in a Smash Bros game, as long as they are a familiar face in the gaming world, which Duck Hunt Dong is. Gooey is a character that is difficult to picture in this kind of game. And yes, I can imagine seeing a character in the character select screen with a simple name, just like R.O.B., Ike, etc. And you dont have to simply call him Dog, you can call him Duck Hunt Dog or Laughing Dog. And just like the dog, Mr. Game & Watch didnt have an official name, so the Smash Bros dev. named him Mr. Game & Watch. The issue of what name to call him is by far the very least issue with this character im suggesting. And for his mugshot, we can have an image of him laughing or holding ducks. And no his mugshot does not have to be in 8-bit form. Here is an image of him in a more cartoonish form. perfect mugshot right there Now you say that a Duck Hunt stage with the Duck Hunt Dog in the background laughing at you great, but what would be better is a Duck Hunt stage with a Duck Hunt Dog as a playable character. That is a far more better idea. I mean look at it this way, remember we had a Animal Crossing stage in Brawl, but no playable character. It upset fans. Having both a playable stage and playable character is a more popular choice than having a playable stage with no character at all. Duck Hunt Dog, as a matter of fact, any character can have a decent fight with any other character. Its not always the character that is bad, maybe never, it depends on the player who is controlling the character itself on how they play. Every true Smash player will tell you that they can hold their own in a match with any character, no matter who it is cause they know when or where to use certain moves and create a strategy. I will tell you right now, pretty much everyone thought that Jigglypuff stands no chance against the most balanced characters, yet you have so many who can master this character. As a matter of fact, I beat Event 51 (Mewtwo, Ganondorf, & Giga Bowser) in Melee with Jigglypuff. A character is only as good as the player who is in control. Now you say the moveset I made for him does not work, Im sorry but I have to disagree, unless you can come up with a better one. What I made for him is a simple and useful moveset that relates to his origins and well represents all his characteristics. The Ducks are used for a good recovery, Clay Disc is a good projectile and reps the Duck Hunt series (like the Ducks) while the NES Zapper is also a good stunning projectile which reps the NES gadgets (also the Duck Hunt game is the most famous game to use this gun). And as for the Pounce attack, at least I based it off of something he has actually done in the game, but I dont mind changing it to a bite if that works better. And all his smash attacks are dog based moves or comical antics which fits his characteristics perfectly. I see nothing wrong with his moveset at all and it can come useful. No offense, but I think the statement of "why pick this one character if you have 79 other" is not a useful argument. I say this because some players, like myself, will play as any character in order to test myself on the many different fighting styles. And also, that statement could also be said about any character in general. You say why play Duck Hunt Dog when we have Ganondorf, well I say why play Gooey when I have Mario, why play Morrigan when I have Mach Rider, why play Goku when I have Mewtwo, etc, etc, etc. Putting that statement against one character is no different than putting it on another character. Pretty much the entire roster itself is under the same category.

Really, Doc. With arguments like those, you have no place in making character decisions. Would Jigglypuff or Pikachu put up a decent fight against Ganondorf? No. IN FACT, if it were canon, only LINK AND TOON LINK can beat him!
And by your logic, why pick Aero when we can pick 79 familiar faces?

I'd love to see Ganondorf get owned by a dog.
Who wouldn't?

Lets say if I was to sprite Duck Hunt Dog, should I try JUS style or edit the existing sprite sheet?
I think Wario vs Duck Hunt Dog would be a great battle.

Safest bet would be to use JUS.

I was thinking for a while that the jus style would be safer but I cant find a sprite like the dog that would fit to even edit. So im guessing the current one that exist will have to do

You can go beat up the Dog when you unlock the stage, alright? He won't be in the game. Sorry, dude.

According to this poll, most would perfer to play as him rather than beat him up.

The Poll doesn't make the game. And who says we should listen to the 16 people that bothered to read this thread when THOUSANDS of people are going to play this game?

I honestly think that we are going to lose all respect from our fans if we don't either remove Aero or make him VERY much worth it in the game.
Off-topic.
As for Duck Hunt Dog, I am all about the occasional joke character, but really? There are much better choices. For example, Ray MK III (not a joke character). Or, how about Tom Nook? Or TINGLE? That'd be a good joke character.
And, if you don't think Dog is a joke character, I'm sorry, but he is.
