Decided to make a role playing game, since I don't feel like starting my "What Time Is It" thread back up.
Btw, this is a game that I made up and I originally created it on the completely unused forums of my webcomic, so I just copy-pasted from there. There might be some stuff still in there from when I was talking as the admin of my forum, so keep that in mind.
Hello! First, a warning:
This RPG (Random Playing Game) does not have many rules, is made up largely on the spot, is greatly altered by individual actions, and is pretty much made by the players for the players.
I, incidentally, will be the GM/DM for this game. If enough people join, I might "promote" people to be Assistant GMs to help me out when I'm not free, or to change the course of the game. It's a lot of fun to have three GMs who all roleplay in completely different ways and who alternate command of the sessions.
I will have to limit the number of players in this game to 10. If you're not one of the first ten to get in, then go ahead and join another thread, or if there aren't any to join, go ahead and be the DM of your own thread! Not a bad deal, eh?
So, the list of rules:
1: STATS
~I make the stats. I so conveniently found a dice-rolling application, so here's where the rolls will be made:
www.wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm
~Stats are final. If you're a swordsman and you get a horrible attacking stat, sucks for you. Might wanna consider a class change later on.
~Stats increase upon leveling up. There will be a set amount that your stats increase upon said level up, which is yet again determined with a dice role, along with character-specific modifiers (such as a swordsman getting a +1 modifier to his attack stat level increase, but a -1 modifier to his magic stat level increase).
~FSP (Free Stat Points) are awarded after leveling up or by completing certain quests. These can be used to increase stats (duh). So if you're a swordsman and you get a horrible attacking stat but don't want to go through the trouble of a class change, DUMP ALL YOUR FSP INTO ATTACK.
2: CHARACTER CREATION AND CUSTOMIZATION
~As I said, this game is 1. Random, and 2. made by the players, for the players. You can be almost whatever the heck you want (within reason). You describe the base weapon you would start with (again, within reason), the abilities you should start with and their effectiveness (yet again, stay within reason), and pretty much everything else about your character except your stats. You can even give him/her a backstory. In general, characters are entirely customizable. Make sure to invent a really cool name for your character, because if you don't, either I'll make one up or I'll use your username.
~If you are artistic, draw your character out, upload it to photobucket (or somewhere else), then post it here. It makes it much easier for me to visualize what characters are doing if I know what to visualize. If you are not artistic, just give a REALLY good description of your character. Eh, the artistic people might want to do that too.
~As time goes on and you level up and stuff like that, stuff happens. You gain EXP, your stats increase, and more powerful weapons, armors and abilities become available to you.
3: GENERAL GAME MECHANICS
~The success of any attack, defend, dodge, ability, and so-forth is determined by dice roll. 2 d10s (essentially a d100) will be rolled for battle-specific actions, and pretty much everything else is dependent on what you're trying to do. Something like a 1-hit kill skill would require, for example, a roll that is above 91 on a 100 sided die.
~Remember, this game is random. I could create monsters you've never heard of, that do things you've never imagined, guarding treasures you could never believe to be true. I could do this and that and so forth. You could go to different planets, galaxies, universes, times, spaces. You could find an item that brings back the dead, you could find an item that looks exactly like the aforementioned item and does absolutely nothing, or even worse, kills the user. The only limits to this game are your imagination and my attention span.
~Money is a system of Copper, Bronze, Silver, and Gold. 100 Copper make up 1 Bronze, 100 Bronze make up 1 Silver, 100 Silver make up 1 Gold. Abbreviations are as follows: Cu = Copper, Bz = Bronze, Ag = Silver, Au = Gold.
4: Newly Added: THE STORY
So, the world is in turmoil! An evil entity known as Boredom is threatening to take over the entire planet and throw the balance of everything known out of whack!
The ten (or less) players are journeying across the single continent of this planet in an attempt to save the world from Boredom. At first, all characters start at their own parts of the continent, known as Ranterra, but all will have the opportunity to journey around and meet with other players and form parties and such. The capital -and largest- city of this massive city/state/country/continent/landmass is known as the City of Random, and Boredom is attempting to attack it through various means. Your goal is to defeat Boredom's army that is spread across Ranterra, venture through unknown lands, and finally arrive in the City of Random, where an enormous battle will take place between the players and Boredom itself.
New aspect of the story revealed!
The shadows and the shady/mysterious men are actually from different groups. The shadows are from the Empire of Darkness, seeking to conquer Ranterra from within the shadows, trying to keep itself shrouded in mystery, ridding all who discover its secrets. The humans are from Boredom, who is trying to take over Ranterra using more... direct means. The job of the players is now to defeat both evil organizations, one way or another. This could mean splitting up the party and sending half to battle each organization, taking out one at a time, or even pitting them against each other. It doesn't matter how, just get rid of the both of them to finish the game. I'll probably have a sequel planned out by the time this happens so we can move right along.
I will set up character sheets in this post when there are character sheets to be made.
Example Character Sheet:
