And lookie what I found. I think Scott Pilgrim would be a good fourth party rep also. From that list... no one. I don't know who half the people are, and the other half are either DBZ or real life people.

@ Werekill: I really don't believe that Dragon Ball Z is better known than Star Wars.

El Maiz, I'm referring to his popularity/viability as a VIDEO GAME character, not his popularity in general.

Screw everyone on that list, I want Indiana Jones. Though, if I HAD to chose someone from that list, I'd choose Darth Vader, cause seriously, it's DARTH VADER. Though he isn't as cool as Indy in my opinion.

By the way, how does Darth Vader actually have any reason to be in Crusade? Goku was in more games and also had more "popularity" in terms of how many games with him were played. To be honest, Goku is, in a lot of ways, a borderline game character. But if we add Vegeta, people will complain about too many anime characters. Besides, he's really similar to Goku. Scott Pilgrim, to me, seems to be a better choice. He could have a diverse moveset, and there are a TON of nintendo references in the film, novels, and game. Vader has been in more games than all of the other non-DBZ characters on the list. Including one that has a Smash-styled multiplayer. xbox360.ign.com/articles/113/1131094p1.htmlThis is outdated, as this was when Force Unleashed 1 was still new. Just add Force Unleashed II, and it's solid. Even though Scott Pilgrim has Nintendo references, it doesn't make him a viable choice. He's been in a whopping ONE game. ONE. And it wasn't even a SYSTEM RELEASE. It was a downloadable game from the Playstation Network and the Xbox Live Arcade. So...not only was he in only one game that was a downloadable title, it wasn't on a NINTENDO SYSTEM. This is where Scott Pilgrim is lacking compared to everyone else on the list. Everyone else has been on non-downloadable games, AND have been on a Nintendo system. I don't mean to sound rude, but I'm taking this through a logical stand-point. After all, The Simpsons made many Nintendo (and non-Nintendo) references as well, is more well known, and has numerous games that have been on Nintendo systems. So logically, Homer Simpson is a better choice than Scott Pilgrim. But Darth Vader trumps Homer as well.

Totally agree with Golden there. Darth Vader is one of the most popular fictional characters in history. I think Mario may be the only thing more popular than Star Wars. Star Wars is a video game franchise, a good one too. It's not any of that THQ crap. It's LucasFREAKINGArts. They make good games.
Scott Pilgrim? It was a movie, not a video game. That's how I see it.

-head desk- But Star Wars would be taking an ORIGINALLY, MOVIE CHARACTER, FROM THE REAL WORLD (Kinda) AND end up putting him in the game. You guys get crap for Goku. GOKU. Imagine all the nagging and complaining you'd get from Vader.
This right here is my last main point.
And just because Vader was in Soul Calibur (Which is WAY more realistic than Smash) Doesn't mean he should be put in every fighting game ever. I personally didn't think he fit there. And I personally dont think He'd fit in smash.

Are you telling me that Wipeout HD isn't technically a REAL game because it doesn't have a disk? SP was also planned for WiiWare, but silly size limits prevented it. DMX, the order goes: graphic novels to game (was planned before the movie) to movie. The game and movie just came out at the same time. Anyway, I was just bringing up a potential 4th party character who has a lot of potential. The simpsons, despite their references, just wouldn't fit, and besides, if you actually read the novels or play the game, you'll see that it's completely saturated with references, parodies, and homages.

I have nothing against Pilgrim. But honestly, I think considering popularity, Darth gets a 5, Simpsons gets a 4, Scott gets a 3.5.

The fantastic 4 are popular, but who got into MvC3? Super Skrull.
We need to think of this from a gameplay and relevance viewpoint, not just sheer popularity.

This person knows what a "common sense" is. It isn't like people would know everyone in Crusade. There will inevitably be characters many people don't know, so we don't need to sacrifice originality in a vain attempt to put in a well known character. I think that we should have no more 4th parties, but there's no "none" option on the poll.

Well, if you go by how we choose our characters now, Darth Vader would get a higher score than Scott Pilgrim. He represents Star Wars, one of the most popular characters EVER, has many move possibilities, and is very unique. He's the original man behind the mask.
Scott Pilgrim? Rep would already be lower than Darth. Popularity is going to be bad. He was in a movie with somewhat mixed reviews, a novel I didn't know about until now, and an 'arcade' game that I thought as an iPhone game at first. Moveset Potential's okay. Uniqueness is low because he's just a guy. And they movie and game came out at the same time because they were working on both at the same time because of the movie production.
Darth's the better choice, IMO.

@ Nights Owl: I'm not saying Vader should be in every fighting game. I'm saying that he should be in because there was a Star Wars character planned for Crusade in the past, Vader has been in numerous games, and has been in a game like Smash. And also, many people argue that Snake doesn't fit in Brawl.
@ Werekill: Super-Skrull was added because he had all of the F4's powers, and rather than making them separate characters, Super-Skrull was used instead to represent all of them, so that they could have more non-F4 characters. Your arguement would be better if you said M.O.D.O.K.
And I'm not saying that it isn't a real game because it wasn't on a disk. You misinterpreted what I said. I said that you can't really count that as a game because of that when you're considering characters from 4th Party sources that have been on games. And planned means nothing. There was going to be a Halo DS. Does that mean Master Chief should be in the next Smash?
And no, Scott makes no sense for this game. Just because of parodies and homages, he's worthy? Does that mean that Cartman is worthy? Or the Robot Chicken? Or MAD's mascot? Because Simpsons is extremely popular worldwide like DBZ is, and because there have been NUMEROUS games for the show, even on Nintendo systems, Simpsons is the best choice for the next 4th Party series.
In summation: Homer>Vader>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Scott.
Novel characters are a worse idea than movie characters, which Nights seems to have a problem with. What's next, Harry Potter? Edward Cullen (God forbid)?

Harry Potter is my fave!! What a great idea...... although Harry Potter is honestly just as good of a choice as Darth Vader saying as how he's been in many books, movies, and probably even more video games than Vader. He would have an almost infinite move potential (shoots a spell that slows you down, shoots a spell that sends you flying, shoots a spell that does something, now I'm getting sarcastic sorry!).
I probably lost everyone there, but the point I'm trying to make is just because they are in a lot of games, it doesn't exactly make sense. Harry Potter was a joke from you and yet he's just as probable as Darth Vader.

But Homer is the one that SHOULD be in.

No I dont think Novel Characters should be in either. The ONLY 2 things I think should be in Smash are ORIGINAL, VIDEO, GAME, CHARACTERS.
While I may enjoy goku and if vegeta was added I'd enjoy him too... BUT I DO NOT think they fit. And thats that. 4th party makes me cringe when mixed with Vidja game characters. Its meshing 2 COMPLETE different things.
(Heated debate is fun. @_@)
Oh and the amount of games someone is in shouldn't really matter. Nor should popularity.
-points at Mach Rider- Who the hell knew who he was? I didn't except from Melee's Trophy.
