Porky is by far the next best choice. Ninten has way too many similarities to Ness, the character Masked Man is a good choice to, but Porky is more of a significant villain than he is and is more recurring. And Giygas form is just doesnt seem fitting at all.

i know porky would be the best choice instead of ninten but lets be real sprites are hard to come ninten = simple remake of ness porky well i have never even seen a sprite sheet unless it was from earthbound the game itself we can all say porky but if we do i doubt he will ever be in due to sprites unless you have a sprite sheet of spider-backpack porky or you can start making him ninten has more chances since his a simple edit of ness
also its like generic Ninten is 2n'd most and least likely, but easiest to incorporate.
come on i want earthbound to have new rep dont you think i though of porky before its just ninten IMO is better due to sprites

just because of an already made or easy-to-make sprite dont make it the best choice. Just saying.
honestly, I havent told anyone this, but I was teaching myself how to make sprites. My 1st two were Duck Hunt Dog and Porky. They came out decent, but I didnt add any shadings and I had Porky on a non-fighting stance.
I mean hell, we have someone working on Ridley, and you know how hard it is to make him, so far the progress is going well. Its just gone take some time. So Im sure Porky wont be too difficult

Might as well chime in and add a quick point:
"Here's a simple list of prioritized reasons for potential character inclusion:
1. Representation 2. Popularity / size of fanbase 3. Moveset potential / possible abilities 4. Uniqueness / Creativity involved in possible design 5. Available sprites and/or animations 6. Ease of programming" -PhantomVII.
Spriting is pretty far down on the priority list. We only have two Earthbound reps planned, as far as I know, and it's a popular series, so that's good. Not sure how popular he is. No idea of the moveset potential since I haven't played the Earthbound games. Um... like everyone said, he apparently is a lot like Ness. Spriting is above. Couldn't possibly be more difficult to program than Ness or Lucas.

member 777 , not saying that is what you stated, I just wanted to point that information out. But yea, I want to see if I can try and make up my own Porky sprite. By the way, here is my very 1st sprite, its Porky without the spider backpack. I plan to continue to work on it some more. Let me know what you think

What the--
HOW IS UNIQUENESS UNDER POPULARITY!?
Those two should be switched.

So what you guys think of this simple Porky sprite I done? You think it needs more shading or at least make the outlines more darker?
I will be adding the spider backpack soon as well to this character. In the meantime, does anyone have ideas of a moveset for him that can work best?

It's good, but it doesn't really match Ness and Lucas, IMO.

Rep for Ninten: 3: He's from the early beginnings of Earthbound, the one who actually started the series, and hasn't had a rep from his game. Popularity for Ninten: 4: If you know the Earthbound series, you have to know Ninten, a lot of people speculate he's Ness's father, and other things. Uniqueness for Ninten: 3: He may be very similar to Ness, but he never uses offensive PSI, though the different moves found in Mother 1 from his teammates could be incorporated as well. Moveset Potential for Ninten: 5: We have some good things here, plus the other character's from the game's moves that have not been incorporated yet. Spriting Simpleness: Ninten: 4: PsiPaula4 made a wonderful sprite sheet with some moves already in, so we'd just have to edit that somewhat. Overall for Ninten: 19/25 or 15/20

generic could you do the grading for ninten i would like to see what you say about him @smashking-ninten is still the better choice to have rep earthbound No. Porky has been in two games, and has set the plot for the final bosses of the games he's in (Giygas and Masked Man). Porky is the clear best choice. AND he's a villain, which gives him bonus points.

Have to agree with Golden here, but Porky is very, very unique, and that can be a problem. I'm sure dashing forwards with the mech would be easier to incorporate, but what would his up special be? a spider web bringing him up, then swinging him across? And a stinky gas; having to code stat changes would be hard as well, I think.

Stinky Gas? You realize we have a character that does that already with no problem, right?
I like the spider-web idea... Also, he is using a spider-backpack and the mech is his FS.

In earthbound, at the final fight before Giygas, one of Porky's moves is to release a stinky gas, which, I believe, greatly lowers the opponents attack and defense. There's currently no character who has that yet. Zoroark first brought the idea forth, but that hasn't been confirmed to be in.
EDIT: I just hope that with all these great ideas, though, the dev team doesn't put us down about having an EarthBound character in. Hm... I'll PM the devs. EDIT 2: Actually, I'm far too lazy too, could someone else do it? Make sure you mention both Porky and Ninten.

Why not give Porky this. His spider backpack legs crouch and springs him up in the air just like his machine from Brawl. Afterwards it slams down

going to make a poll but before i do what question should i add to the poll first of all

Post by DGN on Apr 7, 2011 19:17:39 GMT -5
Just make it a simple "Do you want him in or not?" question with no other things. Cause if you put "perfer porky" on the poll, you'd fail. =(
