Ness used hardly any in Earthbound, but for Smash, he apparently learned how to use some offsensive PSI. That isn't really the problem. Problem is, does Mother really need a third rep who is more similar to existing Mother reps than say, Porky? |

Ninten and Ness kinda look the same, except ninten has a forward cap, different colored shoes, pac man like eyes, and whatever he has on his neck.

If we can have 2 new mother reps, then my 2 choices would be porky since he is a recurring character (which the series has very little of) and was a leading villian in both ness and lucas games respectfully. The next will have to be masked man since he played the role of lucas rival/brother, and his story in the game is one of the most deep and touching in recent nintendo memory. Plus both characters will have unique fighting styles. Unlike ninten who dont even have a appearce to separate himself from ness

Ninten - pointless? You could finally give him a defensive play-style.
Come on, Ness and Lucas used many attacks which did not belong to them in their games.

Unlike ninten who dont even have a appearce to separate himself from ness The only things Masked Man has going for him is that he's an antagonist, and he's pretty much Darth Vader of the video game world, but at that, his "lightsaber" couldn't really bring anything new to the table that the sword users currently have. So he's the brother of Lucas? Unmasked, he looks almost exactly like Ninten as well, but no one seems to care about that. Ninten could easily be given different facial, attitude, and clothing changes that could be much different. Also, Masked Man only appeared in one game that already has a rep. Yes, Ninten appeared in one game, but that hasn't been represented yet. |

A character is gone need an offensive play style to make a defensive style work. The point of a defense is to add in an offense afterwards. And if Ninten cant do that then he would not be a reliable choice if your looking to win matches.
His attacks are not the main reason many of us dont want to see him playable. The issue is that he looks way too similar to Ness in appearance, which will cause alot confusions on the roster. Sure Ninten may have some very small difference in appearance from Ness, but nothing that makes the 2 un-identical
And some of you say he can have some different PSI attacks. Here's the problem, we already have 2 PSI users, so why we need another one when we have 2 unique characters from the series like Porky and Claus. Porky uses mobile mechanics and bombs while Claus uses a laser sword, arm gun, and steel wings. Another PSI user is not needed.
The only thing Ninten has going for him that would make him reasonable to be playable is the fact that he is the 1st protagonist of the series. That's all. But what hurts more for Ninten other than similar appearance from Ness, similar abilities, etc. is that even though he is the 1st protagonist, Ness is way more familiar and popular than him and Ness is pretty much the face of the Mother/Earthbound series. It's a shame that the successor is better known and popular than the ancestor, but its true.
Plus, Porky and Claus represents the antagonist role of the series if they were playable, which is what the Mother series reps are missing. And the Mother/Earthbound series has given us some of Nintendo's most well-creative villains.
Im sorry, but Ninten doesnt bring nothing special that Ness and Lucas has already given us
