Unless the application has all of that kind of stuff in it. And everyone would have a different view on match-ups since everyone plays differently. Sure, there are some obvious ones (most of Goku's and Krystal's would be above 55%). Wouldn't we have to figure out what the match-ups are beforehand so we know the correct answer? We can't give a test without an answer key.

Ah, true. We need to have this figured out beforehand. Honestly, I don't even know a whole lot about matchups since I rarely play this with other human players. As long as the applicant's explanation sounds intelligent and makes sense, I could pass it.

What about any additional questions for the applicant? IMO, match up questions are the most important. They test all of the most important qualities: competitive knowledge, ability to communicate clearly, use of detail, etc. It's all there with match ups. What I'm asking here is, how will we go about this? Questions need to be asked of the applicant, and all BR members need to be able to see the answer, and know when questions are asked so as not to repeat questions. Your idea of posting the app in the BR would work, except that the applicant couldn't be asked questions because they wouldn't be able to see the thread. In SFBR, we have two threads, one public, where the questions are asked and the application is placed, and one BR only thread to talk about the applicant I don't think just the application is enough.....the application is just testing the waters. Q&A is where we really find out their potential I say use the app to let them in, then force them to post in the q&a thread before being allowed to post anywhere else. The app will be stickied somewhere, and applicants will send it to me or someone else in the br. The key isn't the answer itself, but HOW you get to your answer. As long as you can reasonably support it, you're fine. Besides, you really should know the matchups if you want in.

Exactly werekill. The problem with putting those in the app is that they could be studied for ahead of time. We want to know that they can answer on the spot. These are the opinionated questions. The BR is going to be full of debate back and forth. If there were already set answers to make some kind of answer key with, a BR wouldn't be needed. We'd already know all we needed to know, and tiers, along with everything else, would already be done. What's important is how well you can argue your view

Not to troll, but who studies this stuff? We're on the internet, and there will obviously be tons of resources available at any given time. So the point of answering on the spot is quite frankly unimportant. However, I do agree, Werekill. It's all about how they arrive at their answer. Like I posted before, intelligent arguments are what I would look for. So, when do we start creating this application?

Well, things like match-ups won't be available since the wiki isn't quite finished yet, so they need to have a lot of experience playing the game. If I (or someone else) ever develops a true Advanced Technique exclusive to Crusade, we could ask about that. Otherwise I think most of it would mainly be general smash stuff. I thought Werekill was going to make the app this weekend, but I suppose that didn't happen since I haven't seen it.

Even if I did answer the questions well, I wouldn't be good in the back room because my computer can barely play Crusade.

As detta said, not match ups. If everyone was required to write a Mario vs Lucario analysis on their app, they could just play that matchup for a while before posting an application, and I'm sure that match up would then end up getting some discussion in the forum as well. This way they don't know what they are going to be asked, but they should be able to answer anyway

You realize that if they can't figure out the matchup, fighting it wouldn't help much.

You realize that if they can't figure out the matchup, fighting it wouldn't help much. It would, actually. Take Krystal vs Toad for example. I know that Krystal has some trouble against Toad from playing quite a few matches between the two, and through playing, I know why. Hence, you have what the match-up is and how you get there.

I guess that I was thinking that if they were utterly incompetent playing wouldn't help.
Matchups shouldn't be the only factor. They should be able to come up with good ideas as well.

Not even close to being the only factor. We've got 9 pages here of discussion, plenty of different traits, questions, and requirements for applicants are outlined already

really quick, I just want to mention this; I don't think the "Great character Matchups" and "My own personal ranking list" should be moved over to the background, because these are for CPU's, and GCM is for fun games.

What does GCM stand for there?

This sounds really interesting. I might apply since I can play more often now.
