Not that I mean to revive this little "heated argument" or anything, but I decided to read through the first few pages of the SWF thread (I'm around page 31 so far and plan to read the whole thread). While reading through, I discovered this:
Zoom in a bit, as I usually do:
Ha. I'd really like to see the sequence of events that caused PhantomVII to change from this into what he is now.
And wow, I'm surprised at how rough Crusade's start was.

And now he won't get on because of how "Ridiculous" our suggestions are.
I wonder why Dr. Mariox won't answer my PM?

Well, that's partly because he hasn't signed on since yesterday... And the read PM message thing is invalid.

I sincerely doubt that.
And I PM'd him yesterday.

Mind where you're talking about that.DGN: It's relatively accurate, actually. Just not to the second or anything like that, more like to the hour.

All I did was ask a simple question about why he considered our suggestions "Ridiculous".

Because I don't think you guys understand the history behind this project enough to suggest characters. We grew up with Bomberman, Contra, Ristar, Street Fighter, Excitebike, and so many other retro games that have impacted everyone's gaming childhood, and ours. This impact made by these games inspired us to make a Smash Bros. fan game that would bring a player back to the old days with the SNES and the Genesis. Characters such as the Ancient Minister and Agumon didn't leave that special impact on us, nor did they even exist in that time. And yet you question us on why we have characters from great classics in Crusade... I think I chose those words right. EDIT: This is actually Doc's post. I didn't say this.

I understand your view, but I'd just suggest when looking at character suggestions to remember not everyone here is as old as you, nor have played the same games in childhood. In my case, I'm not really that supportive of Agumon, but Digimon played a rather large role in my childhood (I still have Digimon cards). In my opinion, the game should be completely up to you 3 in the end, whether you take suggestions or not. Though I hope you do XD

Ha. I'd really like to see the sequence of events that caused PhantomVII to change from this into what he is now. I think he realized how hard pleasing the fans actually is and that the fans don't always want what he wants. Anyway, that's pretty sad that the game got a small, yet loyal community and some of the devs do everything to push it away. DrMarioX, I'm talking to you right now. What you're doing is just outright nasty. It's your game, but you should be nicer to your fans, whatever they act like.

Falcon, I sincerely doubt that DMX grew up with those games.
I understand what you're saying fully, but only a small handful of us grew up with the same games as you guys.
Hey, I grew up with Ratchet & Clank.

Like I said before, I grew up with Cold Shadow, but I don't want Maui Mallard in the game. And Digimon was as much a childhood for me as Pokemon. None of the games mentioned by you Falcon are games I've even HEARD about in my youth.

In my early childhood I haven't heard about only Ristar from what falcon8r listed.

Well, personally, I grew up with Pokemon, Melee and Double Dash. And am still doing so (with the first two). That makes a lot more sense than Phantom's "the representation is crap" reason, at least. But you still wanted (and I presume still do) him to be in the game. However, I don't see Pokemon in that list, and yet we're going to have how many Pokemon reps? And by the time you guys finish, it seems, there very well may be people playing the game who grew up with Brawl. If the definition of "grew up with" is playing a game a lot between age 5 to age 20, I've grown up with Brawl as well, and DMX would have too.

Also, age is not always the only factor. Not everyone gets a video game console at the same age.

I grew up with the Nintendo 64, which I still consider the golden age of gaming. However, you don't see me...uh...........requesting the char from Tonic Trouble in, despite the fact that I grew up with him.
But its good to find a good mix of characters that everybody should know. Melee and Brawl heavily show this. Melee had characters that older people should know(Game and Watch and Ice Climbers), whereas there are some characters from new games(Pichu and Ganondorf the man) Same with brawl, they had characters from the past like Pit, and characters from the present like Lucario.
And if its any consolation, I don't believe I've insulted characters like Mach Rider and (especially) Ristar.
Also, DMX hasn't logged in since Saturday, 11:00...

Wow, how did I miss this?
Something about the topic of growing up with games. Check out this statistic.
"The average game player is 34 years old and has been playing games for 12 years."
Of course that doesn't quite justify the use of characters who haven't seen a sequal in over 12 years.

Sorry, I actually posted this, just in the wrong account. And if you didn't grow up with these games, it's not our fault and we're not going to fix it. Why? Because the rest of the gaming community on the internet did grow up with these games and just because you few people have a problem doesn't mean everyone does. And don't say that we should care because you guys actually come on the forums. That doesn't give you any more credibility than anyone else. Honestly, I really don't like the forums mainly because of the ridiculous ideas you all come up with. We're trying to make the best Smash-Bros. game possible and we can't do it with this kind of crap. Without your help, we pieced together a demo that everyone fell in love with. Why do decide to go against what's in the game now, Golden? We would be glad to listen to suggestions if smart people actually came up with them...
