At this moment, I am not requesting Rival to be taken out of the roster. Although I feel that should be done, that is not what I'm trying to do here.
I want to try and convince the devs to use other choices for the characters.
First off, Gengar. I feel he should be replaced by Haunter for a number of reasons: 1. He can do everything Gengar can and more. 2. There's no one in the game that doesn't have arms, or at that, even legs or feet. Uniqueness is raised. 3. It's much easier to make a moveset for someone when they don't have limbs, as mentioned above. Plus, being a Ghost type, he could do a lot of different typed moves, similar to Psychic types. Plus, spriting would be extremely easy. Viability goes up. 4. Who would want to trade with Gary to make him get a Gengar? Lol.
Now, I realize there's a problem with his weight, being only 0.2 pounds. However, I have an idea here-he could use Psychic on himself to try and make him go back to the stage. He'd probably end up being about the weight of Jiggs with that.
Scizor. I have no problems with him at all. In fact, he is the only reason I made a thread just to replace the other chars, not replace Rival.
Aggron. Extremely heavy. Not too well liked. Not used by Rival, but heck, you don't care about Gengar not being owned by him, but whatever. Now, although I'd be dissapointed that 3rd generation wouldn't be represented, Rival has never owned a 3rd generation char, and there's someone that would be better instead of Aggron: Rhydon. 1. Rhydon introduces two new types to the game, Rock and Ground, one of them being the same as Aggron. 1a. Rhydon is pretty similar to Aggron. 2. IIRC, he was the first pokemon ever created. 3. Gary actually used him. 4. DRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIL. Uniqueness raised. 5. Aggron weighs 793.7 lbs. Rhydon weighs 264.6 lbs. 6. Being 1st generation, Rhydon is more popular.
The only problem here is that Rhydon doesn't really have any good sprites, I don't believe.
That's all. Opinions? Comments? Questions?

The title is kinda misleading IMO.
Gary has used a Scizor (anime) and a Rhydon (in-game and Manga), though I am still troubled by Haunter and Gengar. He has never used either of those, at all...

DMX and I have been talking about it. The idea is now (not final, but still the current idea) Heracross/Gengar/Rhydon.
And yes, Blue HAS in fact used Gengar. In Pokemon Stadium 2.
The fact that you ignored me when I said I was talking to him about it appalls me Generic.

I've been wondering, how will Gengar move? Will he have multiple jumps like Kirby or float like Peach?

I don't think either. Mewtwo doesn't have those abilities either.

Gengar may have multiple jumps and will probably be a little floaty. Think Luigi.
Also Generic, spriting doesn't have anything to do with viability. In fact, don't even think about sprites- we don't worry about that. I wish you would actually compare and contrast Gengar and Haunter rather than just naming Haunter's pros.

According to google, viability means:
With sprites, it's easier to make the character in the game. It's more practical to have a base than to start fresh. And it's more useful to have more sprites so you can make the character in the game more. But fine. Let's see: Haunter's pros are named above. Cons: Too light, using Psychic to make him go back to the stage would look weird It'd be hard to picture him jumping and moving around There's already a poison type in the game: Ivysaur Never had a strong role in the games or anime Being a ghost type, it's a bit hard to picture physical moves actually hitting him
Gengar's pros: Was used by Gary himself It's easy to picture him jumping rather than Haunter Has a good weight Has had a major role once (Team Meanies)
Cons: A bit hard to picture him actually attacking with his hands It's a bit hard to make up a moveset for him, considering neutral moves There's already a poison type in the game: Ivysaur Being a ghost type, it's a bit hard to picture physical moves actually hitting him He's mostly just a body with a head in the middle and a tail, whereas Haunter's shape is different and a similar body has not been seen in the game yet.
Ok. Now you compare and contrast them.
@golden, I have nothing against Heracross, but where did it say that he's the most popular Johto Pokemon? I can't find anything about it on bulbapedia.

Now that I see Gengar was used by Gary, I vote Gengar.
As long as it is GARY, not "Blue".

Blue is different from Gary. I suppose that's why they called him Rival Trainer. If it's Gary, then all of them except IIRC Rhydon will have to be replaced. If it's blue, everything stays the same.

They just happen to both the Professor Oak's grandson and look the same?

Blue is from the games. Gary is from the anime.
So yes. But they have different Pokemon. It's similar to Ash Ketchum and Red, except they don't look like each other.

Gengar has potential for normal attacks. www.youtube.com/watch?v=XINTgZRCEnMGranted, Gengar IS anime based here...but I don't think a random mallet is out of the question. I didn't say Heracross was THE most. I said it was ONE of the more popular ones. More popular than Scizor.

Ah. Well then. I don't feel that Gengar would be the best representative for a rep of Blue's, though, when it was just a minor role in a game who had characters that never used some of the pokemon they had. I'm thinking someone like Eevee, due to adding a lightweight and actually having a major role of Gary's: in both the games and the anime. Problem is just uniqueness.
Also, could you still post a link to the statistics, Golden?

You could name your rival in the games. Call him Blue, Gary, John, I don't care. DGN: I don't understand that Gengar thing. It's worded very strangely. Also, I don't think statistics are needed for everything, seeing as you do request to see them for just about everything.

Which part about Gengar? I mentioned him many times. And I enjoy proof. Evidence that what someone is saying isn't just a person's own opinion.

Eevee, although would be a good rep for Blue, is limited in attacks and movement due to being a full quadroped. Ivysaur have it's vines to unlimit itself. www.serebiiforums.com/archive/index.php/t-506479.htmlHere's a source where one guy says "I don't understand why Heracross was so popular when Gen. 2 came out..." It's a not a direct source, but it's a reference to what was. He gained a lot of popularity during the Johto season of the anime. Due to other Bug types being overall better now in gameplay, that popularity dwindled down, though he still is one of the most popular 2nd Gen.

However, Heracross is Fighting-type, like Lucario.
But he's still the best choice.

Fighting Type means nothing. There are different styles of fighting to use. Lucario is a brawler (no pun intended), while Heracross can pass as a heavy hitter/grappler.

Good point.
I really don't care about duplicate types. I'm just pointing that out.
