Same could be said for Duck Hunt. Why not have the dog?

Same could be said for Duck Hunt. Why not have the dog? Excitebike has games today. Duck Hunt does not.

Excitebiker is relevant by series. Also, I question if he even still considered retro since he had sequels on both n64, wiiware, and spin offs here and there
Duck Hunt Dog is relevant by apoearances with the most recent being only 2 month ago on a wiiware game, plus he is more iconic than any retro character. Not to mention he has tons of apps on many numbers of websites and mobile phones today. So he is still relevant to this day despite the lack of sequels.
Honestly, Balloon Fighter, Duck Hunt Dog, and Excitebiker shouldve been on this roster to begin with in my opinion. Actually, all 3 of them are better choices and better represent nintendo than mach rider. Nothing against mach rider though, but he is barely referenced as much as the 3 mentioned. Overall, I think all 4 should be playable.
This roster is lacking new retro reps, excluding mach rider.
Now lets get back to the topic in hand about the sprite and moveset. Also I updated the OP with the move set and sprites soon.
If anyone wants to help, please do.
One more thing, can this thread be moved to the sprite wip thread?

We have a lot of retro reps on the current roster (Pit, Little Mac, Mach Rider, Ice Climbers, Excitebike, and some others...)

Excitebike is one of the games among the NES with others like Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Metroid, and Punch-Out that defined Nintendo's debut to the gaming world and still stands as one of Nintendo's most well-known franchises. Such a classic title still makes a strong impact on gaming today. And so did Balloon Fighter. And so can Balloon Fighter. Balloon Fighter had sequals, fan-games, etc. around. Yet he is still a retro character.

Well, I made the arms less stiff by buffing up the appearance of the arms a bit and also added the shading. Next, I will make the bike itself. I am not really good at re-sizing or animating sprites, so if anyone wants to help out just let me know. Also, from this point forward, I will post the most updated sprites on the OP EDIT: I JUST FINISHED SPRITING THE BIKE ITSELF. CHECK OUT THE OP

DMX, Pit and Little Mac aren't retro characters anymore. Pit is getting a sequel on 3DS very soon and Punch-Out got a game on the Wii. AEM, according to DMX, they are including Excitebiker because of his NES importance, not because of his current relevance. And Excitebike series is continuous, but Excitebiker has failed to reappear in the most recent games (ExciteTruck, ExciteBots). But this is getting off-topic, sadly. PM me a response if you wish to reply.

@sp: And to top it off, a sequel for the new Punch-Out is not out of the question.

We're including Excitebike because he's well-known and represents a classic Nintendo franchise that's still alive today like Kid Icarus and Punch-Out. Those 3 go in the same category. Games like Balloon Fighter, Duck Hunt, and even Mach Rider go in a different NES category.

If it's classic and still alive today, it's NOT classic. Because by that logic, Mario is classic. And Balloon Fighter is kind of still active today. Wiiware and 3DSware for example. Tingle's balloon fight came out in 2007. so yeah, it's kind of still alive. Yet not. >_>

Games like Balloon Fighter, Duck Hunt, and even Mach Rider go in a different NES category. I beleive the term is "Semi-Retro". Which is where Pit, Mac, and EB go in. Ice Climbers and Mach would be "Retro". Sad to say, SmashKing, Balloon Fighter would be "Retro". His series has not had a new game recently, and Tingle's Balloon Fight counts as a Tingle game, not a Ballon Fight game.

Ok, lets clear this out now.
Excitebiker is not retro technically, he is miscellaneous. He had a sequel on the N64, other sequels, and many successors long after the original title. He was considered retro back when SSB64 was in development. Actually, at E3 of 1999, Excitebike 64 was shown playable, noting that it has been on development at some time. Also, SSB64 was only a month old after release when Excitebike 64 was publicly shown. And...SSB64 took around 6 or more months to develop and Excitebike 64 wasnt even yet complete in development. So looking further into it, Excitebike 64 may have possibly began development before the 1st Smash Bros was considered. Technically, Excitebiker would be considered a relevant/miscellaneous character instead of a retro.
Duck Hunt Dog is a retro character. His game debuted during the NES era. Since then it had only remakes, but no sequels. The only thing relevant of him is his constant appearances in both gaming & pop culture. His most recent appearance was last year in a Wario WiiWare game. He is relevant by appearance, but still retro since his series is yet to see a sequel and instead had many remakes though Nintendo history as well as 3rd-4th parties like arcade and apps on mobile phones and home computer websites.
Balloon Fighter is also another retro character. Yes, there have been Balloon Fight sequels and spin offs, but neither of them featured the Balloon Fighter himself. He has only been on the original title. His appearance, like Duck Hunt Dog, but not as much overall, are relevant to this day. His series is also relevant also, but excluding the original title, Balloon Fighter has yet to return to the series. Therefore he is still retro.
R.O.B. is still a retro character. like Duck Hunt Dog, his appearance is relevant, but his series has no sequel since the first 2 original titles. Which both debuted on the NES.
Little Mac is not retro, he is considered miscellaneous. Yes, he had his first game/s on the NES, but he had a sequel on the Super Nintendo as well. A retro character is a character that is from and had its last appearance on the NES console or previously before that. His appearance on the Super NES may not confirm him being non-retro, but it does put him in a category where it could be questioned. But now, seeing how Punch Out had its remake on the Wii, a spin-off that starred Doc Luis, and a rumored Punch Out 2 on the way, this defiantly confirms that he is relevant. Therefore Little Mac is miscellaneous.
Pit is not retro no more either, he is also miscellaneous now. Actually, he may possibly not be a retro character to begin with. Here's the thing. A retro character is a character that debuted and had its last appearance on the NES or before that right? Well, many may not realize, but the sequel to Kid Icarus (which was Myth & Monsters) debuted on the Game Boy, which was released a year after the Super Nintendo. So before Uprising, Pit's recent game was during the Game Boy/Super Nintendo era, not the NES era. Also note that he had numbers of cameo appearances between the time of Myth & Monsters and Brawl. But now with Uprising coming out, he is more than relevant today. Therefore he is miscellaneous.
Ice Climbers are retro indeed. Their appearance are relevant since they have made cameo and playable appearances since Melee, yet their only titled game was on the NES. Therefore they are retro.
Mach Rider is also a retro as well. He falls in the same category as Ice Climbers. He had a game on the NES and never saw a sequel since, but had appearance/s outside his series after Melee. Here is an interesting fact, did you know that out of all these retro characters I have mentioned (Smash vets, newcomer, & others), Mach Rider has far less cameo appearances or at all any reference than anyone above?
Ok so this is what we have.
Retro Ice Climbers Mach Rider Duck Hunt Dog Balloon Fighter R.O.B.
Miscellaneous Pit Little Mac Excitebiker
Only 5 out of 8 of these characters are retro.
NOW can we please get back on topic? Not trying to come off stubborn or rude, but this whole off topic things is really annoying.
@dmx Doc, please if you don't mind, either through PMing me or here on the thread, can you tell us if Excitebiker will indeed be on the roster cause it seems like a number of people agree and disagree with his inclusion. I ask for this cause I dont want to sprite a character from scratch and a week later he is taken off the roster.
Also, can this thread be moved to the WIP thread?

Kinda agree, but right now I just plan on focusing on the frames, colors, animations, etc first and resize them all to make it all more even afterwards.

I'd be fine with Excitebiker if we didn't have Mach Rider. But, uh, apparently the devs love motorcycles. And street fighter.

We might as well have Pacman and Ms. Pacman, Siegfried and Nightmare, Mr. Game and Watch and Ms. Game and Watch, and Rash and Zitz.
