Hello. It has come to mine and Phantom's attention that Super Smash Bros. Crusade is anything but active. So, let's conclude things: Phantom and I have discussed the idea of making the current version of SSBC open-source where players can create their own characters, stages, game modes, and menus. Heck, they could make their own Smash fan-games, just using the Crusade Engine. This would avoid any roster issues (you could make your own roster). If you did not know, Falcon8r designed the SSBC engine to be friendly to anyone who looks around in it. It's fairly simple to use- Phantom actually coded Toad's jab btw. ;D Now, what would the Crusade Team do once an open-source Crusade Engine is released? Well, for the most part, I think we'd just sit back and see what people can do with the game. Mostly, I think we would move on to something a bit more simple. I will work on this Mario Reboot (working title). However, Phantom and I have had a Sonic fan-game planned for a LONG time. I've even teased it before, if you remember. So, can we see what will become of Super Smash Bros. Crusade?

That depends. What are your plans on making SSBC online? As in, will there be online already available once we are able to use the open-source version of SSBC? Or will it be added onto it later?

Falcon8r would have to decide this.

Falcon8r would have to decide this. If online is available along with the open-source version you are giving us, I predict the "Yes" part of the poll to skyrocket. Since honestly, it's a pretty good idea. But first, a few changes should be available too, such as being able to choose the old bombs that are going to be added to TL, or simply keeping the old files that have his bombchus.

If this were the case, I personally think that there should be an option to take characters out. No more Whyu or Chum-Li, yayz~ I fully support this. Heck, we could even have an expansion forum.

Crusade is going to turn into Smash-MUGEN if you release it to the general public. Just saying.
I'm not against releasing it and making it open source, but... I dunno. Something seems off about it.
If anyone wants, I can keep the forum active and provide "official" updates that continue the current roster through DLC stages. Nights might be willing to help too, but considering she just deleted her forum account I'm not sure how likely that is. Then there'd an "official" and "vanilla" version that'll eventually get to 1.0 + CrusaDLC and then anyone who wants to add their own characters and stages can do so on their own for their own version. I'd just hate to see this project come so far and then fall apart because the developers have something better to do.

There is 1 THING I want to be done before the game goes Open-Source: Character Sheets
What is that? Different pages of characters you can scroll through on your Character Select Screen. That way, if you go over 80 characters (limit per page), you can scroll over to the next page. It would make your CSS a lot cleaner.
EDIT: Oh, and online: if this were so, each person playing each other would both have to have the same character, right? And they would have to be the EXACT same character.

I had an idea earlier that would sort of be like a temporary game-sync to make sure that all necessary data is there. That's also why I wanted to make an "official" version that picks up from what you guys are leaving off at. So there wouldn't be problems like that.
IIRC Mugen isn't online-compatible. We'd have a similar issue.
DMX, if you can contact Falcon, ask him if he has some time to get on the Xat. I have some stuff to discuss with him.

That's a good idea, Detta. I guess I can upload sprites for stages and what-not for others to make.

I dont know how I feel about it. I like the idea that I can develop my own game, but at the same time it doesn't feel right. Like maybe I just miss this place being a community all working together for one game. Kinda feels like everyone for themselves.
If this is the direction we are going, then I think this forum should be kept open for advice on programming, some tips, share ideas, meet up with old friends, and just help one another if anything
Im probably not going to put in my vote at this time cause I just see a lot of pros and cons with this decision

The Anti-Pony Clan of Crusade. (Like Brawl clans.) Also, for those of you who are looking for balance and such, Red and I shall make a forum for this to help SSBC. It's called Project C. (Crusade's version of Project M.)

What the crap Excal. Project: Crusade was my idea. Make your own name. >:U
Also I'mma make a fun little motivational post-thing: On June 21st, 2009, Chibo-Sempai, widely known nowadays as one of the best R.O.B. mains in the world, created a thread in the R.O.B. boards of SWF stating that the MK matchup was "unwinnable". In his own words, "It's hopeless." Hardly a month later, in the winners finals of SCS, he 3-stocked the best Meta Knight in Ohio in their first match, and won the next one more closely. After losing the third match (he switched to Wario), he won the fourth match as R.O.B. again.
Hope is not lost.

Would you rather keep your silly fan game that no one plays in development hell?
Honestly, to try to compete with say, SSF2's current popularity (which was announced to be 80k daily plays if I'm not mistaken) is not a particularly great move, and will, to put it bluntly, waste your time.
It's better for your sanity to just release it as open-source and watch it explode into popularity as being MUGEN with a platform engine. You'd be surprised as to how many people would obsess over this stuff.
You all have other projects planned, and this would be a great way to free up your time. I say: go for it.
